Central Michigan vs. Western Michigan College Football Pick

Central Michigan Chippewas (-6.5) @ Western Michigan Broncos: The Chipps are a big public favorite in this one, and it’s because they have a highly rated college quarterback, they are 4-1, they have an upset win over the Spartans to their credit, and they’ve won five straight, and four straight by a touchdown or more. But I like teh Chipps for one reason, and one reason only – in his 3 year career, one filled with success and impressive leadership, Central Michigan QB Dan LeFevour has never lost to his in-Michigan rival. There’s something to be said for that. If you can walk into a game saying I’ve always beaten these guys, always, tell your teammates, just follow me, I’ve been here before and I’ve never lost – I’ll take that every time. Rivalry? Sure, but pretty one-sided since Dan started tossing touchdowns.

St. Louis Rams vs Jacksonville Jaguars Free Pick

St. Louis Rams (+10) @ Jacksonville Jaguars: Now lets start with some interesting statistics this year. The Rams have lost every game by double digits, besides their 2 point loss to the Washington Redskins, and lets be honest, that really doesn’t count. That being said, they have played some pretty damn good teams, the Seahawks in Week 1 had Matt Hasselbeck, and everyone has seen how different they are with him at the helm. Week 3, 4, and 5 saw Green Bay, San Francisco, and Minnesota meet up with the Rams, and the outcomes weren’t pretty. I mean, they’ve managed just 34 points through 5 games, even the Browns think that’s terrible. The Jaguars, meanwhile, are a very up and down team. They played the Colts tough in Week 1, losing 14-12 to Peyton and company. They then got thrown around in Jacksonville by the Cardinals, 31-17, and to be honest it wasn’t that close. Two straight wins to even up their record (taking down the Texans and Titans) got them some respect before Seattle came back to destroy any of that by beating them 41-0. That score isn’t a misprint. I’ve missed on the Jaguars a lot this year, but I still don’t think they deserved to be favored by 10 points against anybody. The Rams are getting healthy, as they should have the healthiest offense they’ve had all year. If they commit to the run, and I think they will, they have a chance to cover agaisnt the Jaguars. They are the worst team in football, but I haven’t liked what I’ve heard out of Jacksonville this week. Turmoil isn’t good when you’re about to play a game that’s difficult to get up for in the first place. It might be a one time thing, but I’m taking St. Louis.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. Clemson Tigers Pick

Wake Forest Demon Deacons (+7) @ Clemson Tigers: In the end, I think Clemson has a good chance to get away with a win at home. I mean the home team has gotten the win in 6 of the last 7 seasons, but this game is going to be close. And close means take the points, the value is there. Even if Clemson gets off to an early lead, Skinner has the arm to get his team back in it. If the Deacons get off to a quick lead, Clemson will struggle relying on their passing attack to get back in the game. The nod goes toward the 7 points there. I expect a close game. Another plus for points. The Tigers are good in the trenches, boasting one of the conferences best defensive lines, but their secondary hasn’t been great. A plus for Skinner and his 1600+ yards and 15 touchdowns. Offensively the Tigers have had a tough time getting in the end zone. Riley Skinner has been playing very well of late, and I think he’s enough to cover the full touchdown spread in a game that is often very close. I’ll take the points in this middle of the road ACC match-up.

Cincinnati Bearcats vs South Florida Bulls Free Pick

This Thursday Night free football pick has two undefeated Big East teams squaring off in what should be one hell of a game. The spread is tight, the teams really fly around well, and the Bearcats have climbed all the way to 8th nationally without one single win against a ranked opponent – I guess that’s what 5-0 and some big passing numbers will do for a school. But how will they go this Thursday?

Cincinnati Bearcats (-2.5) @ South Florida Bulls: This game is tough, no doubt, you have history, you have this season, and you have Thursday Night Football, all three things are working their magic on my decision here. The Bearcats are 9-1 in their last 10 games, losing on New Years Day to the Virginia Tech Hokies 20-7. South Florida is 5-0 on the season, but late season breakdowns have been their MO. The home team has taken the win in 5 of the last 6 meetings between these Big East foes, and Cincinnati has covered the last 5. The Bulls’ star quarterback, Matt Grothe, is out for the season, while Tony Pike has been very busy making quite the name for himself while throwing for just under 300 yards per game in Cincinnati this season. This game is likely to be very close, as neither team looks likely to budge on Thursday. The Bulls have a little more speed on defense, but Tony Pike and company can put up some points offensively. What has me taking the road dog in this one is South Florida’s Thursday Night history. It’s tough to come in and pay mid-week, a lot of teams struggle with it, and the Bulls just happen to be one of those teams. They’ve been embarrased two straight seasons by big Thursday Night upsets, and I think Cincinnati just happens to be the better team this time around. I’ll take Cinci to do some damage on ESPN’s Thursday Night Football.
