2007 Fantasy Football theRUNDOWN Week 4

This Week’s Top Team: Week 3 produced my top fantasy group thus far, with Tom Brady, Brian Westbrook, and Randy Moss leading my group of marry men. This week, the lineup looks a little different, and that’s because I need 150 points to be satisfied. Here we go…

QB: Tom Brady vs. Cincinnati: This is the toughest decision I’ll have to make, as there are 4 or 5 great options this weekend – unfortunately, I’m going for the safest choice, Tom Brady against that terrible Bengals secondary. However, McNabb and Romo are tough to pass up going into Week 4, all of these guys have great match-ups against bad defenses. I’ll stick with the new daddy.

RB: Brian Westbrook vs. NY Giants: Brain Westbrook is the scariest offensive player in the NFC. He’s scary because of his ability, and the fact that he’s a little fragile and you never know. The Giants defense doesn’t have one guy that is fast enough to keep up with Westy, so I imagine he’ll beast them if he dresses.

RB: Joseph Addai vs. Denver: At the end of the day, Peyton Manning will have handed and dumped the ball off to Addai more than he will have thrown to Harrison, Wayne, and Clark combined. Denver’s rush defense is bad, to say the least, and with so much energy spent on slowing Manning and company, I foresee a huge day for Mr. Addai.

WR: Randy Moss vs. Cincinnati: If my Tom Brady to Randy Moss combo continues to flourish, I have a hard time believing that Brady won’t find Moss for at least two touchdowns against a Bengals defense that has looked terrible week in and week out.

WR: Terrell Owens vs. St. Louis: Free Fantasy points over here! Come and get them. Terrell Owens is way too physical for the Rams defensive backs, especially with the speedy and talented Tye Hill out once again. I see a very big score discrepancy in this one, with Owens doing most of his damage in the first half.

TE: Antonio Gates vs. Kansas City: If its not obvious by now that opposing teams are going to make Phillip Rivers beat them instead of LT, then I don’t know jack. What I see is everyone in KC trying to stop LT, and Gates going off for somewhere around 150 yards.

K: Matt Stover vs. Cleveland: I think the Ravens offense is good enough to move the ball, but they haven’t shown me they are much of a touchdown threat, so I’ll go with Stover. Matt is a money kicker, and given chances this week against a bad Browns defense, you can imagine he’ll get those kicks through the uprights.

D: Chargers vs. Chiefs: I’m taking another chance against the Chiefs here, because their offense is brutal. I’m hoping for a shutout, and or a defensive touchdown coming off a couple big hits by the OLBs in San Diego. It’s tough to imagine the Chiefs taking many chances in this game, but if SD can get up early, and start clicking on offense, KC will have to take some chances, and if that’s the case, I like the Chargers chances to put up defensive numbers.

LUCKY’S Week 4 SLEEPERS

Daunte Culpepper: How bad do you think Pep wants to beat Miami’s organization? I know Saban is gone, but Cameron didn’t even give Pep a chance, electing to trade for father time, Trent Green, instead. Well, I think Pep will outperform Green, and the Raiders might start a winning streak in Miami.

Rex Grossman: If Rex gets the boot by Wednesday, cross this one out – but if he’s starting again, I think he could have a good Rex day against the Lions. Detroit’s defensive secondary is bad, and Rex can have good days. Seeing as this will almost surely be his last chance, I’m going to throw him on my sleeper list and say, “start him!”

Brian Leonard: Many people are looking for that guy to be a replacement this week, and while St. Louis’s offense is brutal, and their line is battered, Leonard will get plenty of chances to do a thing or two against Dallas this week, and with all the problems the Rams are having lately, I have a feeling the Cowboys defense could come out slow, as this game is a wrap, and let Leonard do some early damage. Not a great option, but as a true sleeper stop-gap, I’d roll the dice on Brian.

Marshawn Lynch: I don’t know if he can be a sleeper, because he’s shown up to do damage against every team he’s played against this season, but Lynch is almost a must start against the Jets. N.Y. has shown they can’t stop the run (look at their past 3 games) and Lynch will carry the load for Buffalo with a rookie quarterback starting. Lots of touches against N.Y…. Sounds like a big day.

Thomas Jones: Jones against Buffalo’s defense is a lock for 125 yards and a touchdown. He hasn’t gone off yet, and he can sill be considered a sleeper – if you can trade for him, now is a good time to do it if you didn’t do it already. He’ll be a Top 10 guy in the RB list this week.

Lee Evans: Wow, how far this guy has fallen. I’m sure its not his fault, but that of the pathetic play of JP Losman and just bad overall team action, but Lee has gone from Top 10 guy to sleeper status in the matter of weeks. Evans has a nice match-up against the Jets this weekend, and they will need to get him the ball, or at least throw his was upwards of 15 times to have a chance in this one. Trent Edwards may be a rookie, but he’s well polished, and will give Evans a chance to have a nice day.

Joey Galloway: Joey is hardly a sleeper, but still not starting for many teams out there. The Panthers have been a very bad defensive team, even with all those solid players in that secondary. The confidence seems shot in Carolina, and even that mean defensive front hasn’t gotten pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Look for Joey to get deep and Jeff to throw it as far as he can – right into Joey’s little hands.

Greg Olsen: Regardless of who throws him the ball this weekend, it seems like Greg Olsen will be open and ready to catch it. He looked decent last week against Dallas, and this week Detroit hosts the Bears. They have a bad secondary. Olsen will collect his first touchdown.

Packers DST: The Vikings… With Kelly Holcomb at quarterback? This should be interesting. It will be a low scoring affair, but the Packers are good enough to gather an early lead and force Holcomb to throw. They’ll take advantage of that.

LUCKY’S Week 4 Bench Riders

Peyton Manning: I know, you’re not sitting Peyton, but I don’t think he’ll have a Manning-esque game this week against Denver. Joseph Addai will get lots of touches, and the solid Broncos secondary will keep Peyton honest. Overall, Manning has always been a take what you get guy, and the Colts could run Addai all day long. If you are expecting 20 points from Manning, you will be surprised.

Larry Johnson: Just another week or two, Larry, and then you’ll at least have a chance. Right now, it’s the Chargers front 7, a scary unit – and against you, they’ll be the Chargers front 9 – good luck with that.

Edgerrin James: Last week it was Baltimore, this week it’s the new-look Steelers. Ken Whisenhunt would love to take home a win from this one, but I don’t see it happening. Pittsburgh shut down a very good rushing attack from San Francisco last week, and I don’t think the Cardinals will fair much better. That means another week on the Bench Riders for the Edge.

Marvin Harrison: Nobody will sit Marvin, but they should. I have a feeling that Champ Bailey will get the Marv assignment, and Harrison’s night will be limited because of it.

Algae Crumpler: There will be no time for Harrington to get the ball to his tight end, and the short pass will be heavily guarded by a nice set of linebackers and safeties. Overall, I think Crump’s day will be very average at best.

2007 Fantasy Football theRUNDOWN Week 3

This Week’s Top Team: Okay, last week was much like Week 1, and I’m tired of being just good enough to stay over the century mark, so I have some big changes going into this week’s rundown… Get ready, I’m about to knock some socks off.

QB: Tom Brady vs. Buffalo: This is a no-brainer in my opinion. The Patriots have been great, and Tom Brady has been unreal, plus I expect their defense to struggle a little bit this week as Buffalo’s tandem of Lee Evans and JP Losman will play better. But Tom will outshine those two, and pickup about 25 points for me.

RB: Brian Westbrook vs. Detroit: I expect Brian to get about 15 carries for 100 yards, but through the air is where I expect him to do most of his damage. Detroit’s secondary couldn’t keep up with Keyshawn Johnson, so I don’t expect them to even realize how fast Westbrook burned past them. The Eagles need a win, and to get it, they’ll rely on their most explosive player.

RB: LaDainian Tomlinson vs. Green Bay: Honestly, I think the world of Green Bay’s defense – I just don’t see LT having 3 bad weeks in a row. He’s the best player in the league, and his offensive line is solid. When this week is all said and done, I expect LT to have more Week 3 fantasy points than any other player.

WR: Steve Smith vs. Atlanta: There isn’t a corner in the league I’d pick to shut down Steve Smith. Atlanta doesn’t have the greatest defense and Smith is THE weapon in Carolina. Atlanta knows it, Jake Delhomme knows it, and John Fox (who knows very little) knows it as well. But nobody thinks Steve Smith will struggle on Sunday.

WR: Randy Moss vs. Buffalo: You probably saw this coming, I took Randy Moss, fresh off of producing big enough stats to change the name of my Bad Plays of the week from the Randy Moss’s – to now becoming a top receiver from this week’s action. Well, Randy is back, and I love it. Seeing as though I expect Tom Brady to have a big day, I think Randy Moss is sure to catch a couple touchdowns against one of the worst secondaries in the league.

TE: Chris Cooley vs. Giants: Last week I picked a tight end not name Antonio Gates, and the kid stepped up and produced the top fantasy score for TEs in Week 2. So, I’ll move away from Gates again, and go for the TE who should torment the Giants secondary.

K: Josh Brown vs. Cincinnati: The Hawks will move the ball easily and Josh Brown could be the guy winning the game in Seattle. I expect about 4 field goals from this game winning K in the rainy state.

D: Vikings vs. Chiefs: Larry Johnson says he wants 40 carries in this game. Larry, I don’t think your team will have the ball for that long, big guy. I love LJ, and think he’s right up there with LT at the top of NFL running backs, but the Vikings are built to kill the Chiefs.

LUCKY’S Week 3 SLEEPERS

Tarvaris Jackson: Nobody will start Jackson, but against a Detroit secondary that has nobody to stop even the most anemic of wide receiving corps, I think Jackson will have a couple touchdown passes. That will rank him in the Top 15 of Week 2 quarterbacks, and probably make him start-worth for some unlucky fantasy team out there.

Jeff Garcia: Jeff makes a return to my sleeper list, this week, and looky there, that coincides with another easy match-up. The Ram secondary is very similar to the very poor unit in New Orleans, so it should be wide open receivers for Jeff and the Bucs.

Derek Ward: DW will be getting all the carries for the second week in a row, and despite the Redskins’ solid ranking against the run this season, I expect a century mark for Ward, at least.

Maurice Jones Drew: The Jaguars play the Broncos, a team that has a stellar secondary and a questionable front line of defense. The Jaguars a strictly a running team that has been pretending to be something else in recent weeks. I expect Jones Drew to get 15+ touches, and that means a big day for the little guy.

Thomas Jones: After two very tough match-ups and a bad leg, Jones will finally show what he’s made of against the Dolphins in Week 3. I expect Jones to have a huge week, so if you can get him cheap, pull that trigger.

Ronald Curry: RC is back and he’s ready to explode like he did in Week 1. Yes, the Raiders have what I’d call a solid fantasy match-up in Week 3. A talented young speedy receiver – check. A coach who likes to throw the rock – check. A quarterback with a big arm – check. And the last and most important ingredient, the Browns secondary. Checkmate.

Vincent Jackson: I like Vince to pull home around 100 yards and a touchdown in Week 3. I know that’s crazy speak because not only is the Packers’ defense solid, but the Chargers’ offense has been pathetic. But, you heard it here first, Norv will turn the passing game loose this week, using it to set up LT. The Chargers will walk over the Packers, and Vincent will have a big day.

Eric Johnson: It seems like TEs get easy action from the Titans defense, so I expect EJ to be big this week. He’ll have room, and Drew Brees will settle for the sure thing more in this one, so a decent day from EJ is an option.

Cowboys DST: The Cowboys were a good option last week, as I predicted, and this week will be much of the same. The Cowboys could capitalize big time if Rex has one of those Rex days. However, this is a risky pick because Rex could always have one of those other Rex days.

LUCKY’S Week 3 Bench Riders

We’ll go with bench riders until I become more clever… Could be a while. I’m also done picking on Mike, he needs no more pub.

Matt Leinart: Baltimore’s in town this week. Yep. That’s about all I have to say about that one.

Larry Johnson: I don’t like Larry’s match-up in Week 3, regardless of the improved workload he’s expected to get. Like I said in another article this week, the Vikings are built to stop the Chiefs offense.

Edgerrin James: This seems like an easy pick, but I’m not sure, he might get around 70 yards. Either way, 7 points from your starting running back isn’t a good option.

Braylon Edwards: Braylon had a huge week in Week 2, but I don’t see him terrorizing the Raiders like he did the Bengals. Edwards is solid, and some fantasy gurus are quick to point out the Raiders’ short comings in the secondary this year, but they’re wrong. Numbers are one thing, but the Raiders have been solid and their ranking will only improve when thy shut down the Browns in Week 3.

Todd Heap: Heap is a must start in most leagues, but I don’t see him doing much more than 4 catches for 40 yards against the Arizona Cardinals. Their safety unit is premium.

2007 Fantasy Football theRUNDOWN Week 2

This Week’s Top Team: 150+ points???

QB: Peyton Manning vs. Tennessee: I may be taking the safe bet here, but I also think Manning’s match-up with the Titans looks like the best bet. If Tennessee puts as much effort into stopping the Colts’ ground attack as they did in Week 1 against Jacksonville, then Manning will have no choice but to find open receivers all day long.

RB: Travis Henry vs. Oakland: The Raider’s get a lot of credit for having a very good defense, “The best pass defense in the league,” but the only way a team can get that ranking is by being one of the lesser run defenses. That way, teams will just run because it’s a better option than passing. Travis Henry showed that he’s going to be a beast this year, by running all over the Dolphins in Week 1. He’ll have his way with the Raiders as well.

RB: Frank Gore vs. St. Louis: Gore had a poor start to the season, but the running back always seems to struggle against the Cardinals. This week, he goes against a team he maimed last year, and a defense that gave up 150+ rushing yards to the Panthers last week. The Rams won’t be able to contain this 49er, as he’ll go over the century mark by the end of the 3rd quarter.

WR: Reggie Wayne vs. Tennessee: Reggie was one of the top receivers in Week 1, and I imagine he’ll be right up there in Week 2. Like I said in my Manning write-up, the Titans will have to spend too much defensive power to stop the Colts run, leaving Wayne and Harrison too much room to do their damage.

WR: Terrell Owens vs. Miami: I don’t think Miami’s secondary can slow down the Cowboy’s passing attack. They have some nice pass rushers, but their secondary is young and not all that reliable. TO will get over the 100 yard mark with at least a touchdown to his name.

TE: Kellen Winslow vs. Bengals: Todd Heap didn’t have a great day last week against Cincinnati, but he was open, and he did have a touchdown called back. I think the Browns will be way down in this one, while the young Brown quarterbacks will have to find someone to throw the ball to. Winslow is a sure handed playmaker at TE, and TEs are a young quarterback’s best friend.

K: Olindo Mare vs. Tampa Bay: Mare missed a 50+ yarder, and overall the Saints sucked it up in Week 1 against the Colts. That won’t happen for long, and you can bet Mare will benefit from an offense that is primed for a big day against the Bucs.

D: Bears vs. Chiefs: The Bears are pretty damn good, and the Chiefs have one of the worst offenses in the last couple years. Larry Johnson will get more carries in this game, but who is blocking for him? Who will keep Bear pass rushers off of Damon Huard? If you answered “No body!” they you win a huge point total from the Bears in Week 2. Congratulations!

LUCKY’S Week 2 SLEEPERS

Tarvaris Jackson: Nobody will start Jackson, but against a Detroit secondary that has nobody to stop even the most anemic of wide receiving corps, I think Jackson will have a couple touchdown passes. That will rank him in the Top 15 of Week 2 quarterbacks, and probably make him start-worth for some unlucky fantasy team out there.

Jeff Garcia: The most beautiful man in football should get plenty of opportunities to throw the rock against the Saints this weekend. I’m sure that the Saints will put up some nice point total, in the 30s, so Garcia will have to find Joey Galloway for over a 100 yards if the Bucs are to keep pace. Garcia will have a nice day, especially for a guy starting in 3% of fantasy leagues.

Jerious Norwood: Can a 2nd running back on a bad offense be a sleeper? He will if the Falcons want to stand a chance against the Jaguars. See, Dunn carried the ball for 55 yards on 22 carries last week, while Norwood averaged just under 5 yards a tote. Jerious is a gamebreaker, someone the Falcons will have to take full advantage of if Bobby Patrino wants to win any games this season. Even against a tough defense, Norwood is a nice sleeper candidate if you are in a bind.

Maurice Jones Drew: MJD was one of the many disappointing fantasy players in Week 1. He was picked in the first couple rounds of every draft, and he didn’t impress in Week 1. Like Norwood, Drew was limited in carries, but still managed just under 5 yards a carry while the #1 back carried for just over 2 yards per touch. The Falcons showed they couldn’t stop the run last week against Minnesota, so I like Drew this week.

Santonio Holmes: Can I ride Holmes as a sleeper for the 2nd straight week? I will, but if he does what I expect him to do, he loses all sleeper candidacy for the rest of the season. Look for him to blow up the Buffalo Bills secondary.

Vincent Jackson: I had two great sleeper wide receivers in week 1 that both scored double digits, and this week I’m going to try to pull another rabbit out of the hat. Everyone picked Vince to do solid things this year, but after 1 slow week, he’s being dropped – easy guys. Vincent will grab a touchdown against the Patriots, and have over 60 yards. Too much attention to LT will give this big athletic speedster a few nice chances.

Marcades Lewis: Lewis will be the guy exploiting the Falcons middle of the field. Remember, a sleeper at TE means he’s hoping for about 6-8 points. Haha; freaking tight ends.

Cowboys DST: One bad week, and there go the drops, the Cowboys being one of the fired units. Jump on them this week, Trent Green will be a sitting, interception throwing, fumbling, duck, and the Boys will take full advantage.

LUCKY’S Week 2 Saints

(The Saints were suggested by Tim Jennings in New Orleans – have a better name for my bad plays of the week? Email ’em to me!)

Mike Vick: Still going to jail, still watching his teammates struggle, and still thinking about how you can have everything and throw in right down the shitter.

Matt Leinart: Start him and pay the price. This guy wouldn’t take a chance to save his life during Monday Night’s loss to the 49ers. This week, he has to deal with Partick Kerney and Julian Peterson, and a ball hawking Seahawks secondary that played very well last week against Tampa Bay. A couple picks will hold Matt down.

Larry Johnson: How would you like to run smack into the teeth of a group of Bears without any special armor of offensive lineman blocking for you? Ask Larry Johnson? He’ll tell you, this is why he held out for more money.

Thomas Jones: The tough part is, I’d like to have both LJ and TJ on my fantasy roster. Hell, in one league I do. However, like LJ, TJ has a tough match-up against the Ravens this week. Baltimore has to be pissed that their offense couldn’t do dick besides put them in brutal situations all night long, and they are going to take it out on TJ. Especially with a rookie quarterback in there for New York.

Ronald Curry: He’ll do better than Lee Evans did last week, but for all those donkeys that went out and grabbed Curry or are starting him this week because of last week’s performance – don’t expect half of what he did against the Lions – he’ll be shut down by Champ and Drew Bly all day long.

Tony Gonzalez: Did you see the Chiefs offense last week? This week they play Chicago, not Houston. Good luck Tony!

2007 Fantasy Football theRUNDOWN Week 1

My rundown is back and better than ever. As readers have realized, my fantasy knowledge is tip top, and I’m here to help you sort out the champs from the chumps – this is my weekly start’em and sit’em section. Let the Fantasy Football season begin the point tallies – and feel free to knock me on my picks! But do it prior to the games, I’m not all that interested in your perfect hindsight.

This Week’s Top Team: The best of Week 1.

QB: Drew Brees vs. Colts: Peyton’s team might get the win, but I have a feeling Drew Brees will throw for more yards in this one. Brees has been a sniper in pre-season action, and he should only be stronger in his 2nd season back from surgery. Look for Brees to launch early and often, and dump for big yards to his check-down options.

RB: Frank Gore vs. Cardinals: I think the Cardinals defense is underrated, but Frank Gore is going to attack the Cardinals from start to finish. Gore has his fumbling problems at the goal line out of the way, and he’s primed for a huge season if he can stay healthy. He’s going to be healthy for Week 1, so I’d say he’s a safe bet in Monday Night’s showdown with the Cardinals.

RB: LaDainian Tomlinson vs. Chicago: Yeah, I have to go with LT in week 1, even with Chicago’s vaunted defense ready to attempt a shutdown on the league’s most dynamic offensive player. LT will get every important carry for the Chargers, and I expect them to beat the Bears this weekend. Phillip Rivers will keep the Bears honest, but LT will continue his touchdown hold on the NFL with a couple this weekend.

WR: Steve Smith vs. St. Louis: I like Steve Smith any day of the week, but especially in a game that should have plenty of scoring. Not only will it be high scoring, but he Panthers could be down late, and that’s a Steve Smith recipe for fantasy numbers.

WR: Chad Johnson vs. Ravens: Look at the stats, Chad Johnson beats up on the Ravens. Its probably because the Ravens are too stubborn to roll all coverages at Chad like every other defense. Well, I like Chad’s new found attitude this year, and I imagine he’ll start hot right out of the gates.

TE: Todd Heap vs. Bengals: Cincinnati doesn’t have much of a defense, and Todd Heap is the main man in Steve McNair’s checks. I expect Todd to be 7-11 on Sunday.

K: Jeff Wilkins vs. Carolina: I think Carolina’s defense is good enough to slow the Rams offense enough to make Jeff Wilkins attempt at least 3 field goals. Jeff will hit those field goals and tack on some extra points. He’s as solid an option as you get in Week 1.

D: Steelers vs. Browns: The Browns just don’t have an offensive game. I know their offensive line is stacked, but without a game breaker running the ball, or a quarterback that strikes fear into their defense, Pittsburgh will be all over that line of scrimmage. Sacks and turnovers be ware, Mike Tomlin will have his guys ready in Week 1.

LUCKY’S Week 1 SLEEPERS

Ben Roethlisberger: You could tell from the get go that Ben Roethlisberger was a competitor – because even when there was no business for him starting and winning football games as a rookie, that’s just what he did. Last season had to kill the big guy, as his play was sub par. He’ll be back this season, starting in Cleveland.

Jason Campbell: Campbell won’t get many starts in Fantasy leagues early on, but I’d be happy starting the young Washington Quarterback. He’s a threat to run, and strong enough to score on the goal line. He’ll find some deep balls to Santana Moss, the Dolphins’ secondary just isn’t that good.

Julius Jones: Jones won’t get too many starting nods in Week 1, and that’s understandable, why would you put a guy in who’s sharing carries as your starter if you don’t have to? Well, I see about 100 yards and a score out of Jones. That’s worth a start for more than a few teams out there.

Ahman Green: I’ve said for years that Ahman Green would be perfect in Denver’s system. Well, he didn’t get the chance in Denver, but Kubiak runs that system for Green’s new team, the Houston Texans. Houston’s O-Line run blocks just swell, and I wouldn’t be shocked if Green goes over 100 yards in his first action since exiting Green Bay.

Santonio Holmes: Hines Ward often has a solid day against Cleveland, maybe he just feels faster than someone wearing orange. Either way, he’ll share his secret with Holmes, and the young speedster will get deep 2 or 3 times against the Browns secondary. 6 catches for just under 100 yards and a score; that’s my prediction.

Ronald Curry: This guy is the #1 option in Lane Kiffin’s new offense in Oakland. I expect the Raiders to be down too much to run the ball all game using LaMont Jordan, and Curry isn’t a big enough commodity to get double coverage over any of the other Raider receivers, but he’ll get the most balls from Josh McCowen or Daunte Culpepper, whomever starts in Oakland. Both have a cannon, and Curry, who caught 33 balls over the last 4 games, will be a beneficiary of better quarterbacking and a new-school offense in Oakland – especially against the Lions’ secondary.

Daniel Graham: Buffalo is bruised and battered on defense. No, they’re healthy, that’s not what I meant, I just meant they’re bad. Graham could catch 60-70 balls in Denver this year – he’s a legit breakout candidate for TEs. I expect big things from him, especially against Buffalo’s defense.

Falcons DST: I’m all but certain that the Falcons are sitting on the waiver wire in your league right now, waiting to be picked up by you. Well, I know the Vikings have a solid rushing attack, but until they prove to be a bigger threat throwing the ball, defenses like the Falcons will put 8 and 9 in the box. No kind of freak offensive lineman can make holes with that facing them. Atlanta is fast enough to cause Tarvaris Jackson some problems when he does pass. The Falcons could be a big point getter in Week 1.

LUCKY’S Week 1 Randy Moss’s

(This section may need a new name if Randy starts to prove himself in New England, but I didn’t think it fair to get Randy’s name off this list just because he got traded, he needs to step up first)

Mike Vick: His passing just won’t get it done this year. He’s got sore legs, and his teammates in San Quentin just aren’t as good as the Falcons he had last year. Err… What an idiot. Dog fighting – talk about pissing it all away.

Trent Green: I just think Green is brutal. I seriously can throw farther than him, (If someone reading this can prove that Green can throw farther than 60 yards – send me an email and I’ll stop claiming this) and his offense isn’t that good. He’s old with a bad offensive line, and his best receiver is overrated. Even Washington’s terrible defense will make his efforts look lackluster.

Cedric Benson: Hey Ced, your teammates don’t like you, but Thomas Jones was sent out of town because you get paid like a damn basketball player – guess what you win? A chance to rush against the Chargers! Yeah! Good luck buddy, and hopefully you’ve made buddy-buddy with your O-Line, because if you haven’t, I’m sure Merriman will get a clean look at you in the first couple series’ if not all game long.

Warrick Dunn: Without Vick, I don’t think Dunn will be that sneaky of a runner like he used to be. Plus, WD20 is getting older, and his backup is the kid with all the upside in the world. I don’t see Dunn being startable this season, mainly because he won’t get enough touches, he’s wearing down, and he’s never been a touchdown threat. Against a defense that dominates against the run, Week 1 should be tough for the Falcons’ #1 runner.

Calvin Johnson: I’m sure the kid will get his during the season, but I don’t think Week 1 is that time. The Raiders have a very talented secondary especially with their fast and athletic corners. CJ will get a tough test as the #3 guy in Week 1, I don’t see him getting starter numbers. Maybe 45 yards on 3 catches.

Laveranues Coles: I like Coles a lot, but he doesn’t shine against the Patriots. New England isn’t afraid to take away a team’s top targets, and in the passing game, Coles is definitely that guy for the Jets. Like I said, I’m sure Coles will have a solid season, I just don’t think the Patriots will let him start in Week 1.

2006 Fantasy Football Week 16 theRUNDOWN

This Week’s Top Team: This is when it starts getting tough for the Big Guy. The end of the year is coming, and who knows who’s going to sit and rest. That’s where I come in. Play these guys and you’re assured a big week.

QB: Drew Brees: Only because I think the Colts will run easily on the Texans, limiting Peyton Manning’s touchdown passes, I’ll go with Drew against a Giants team that should have quit already.

RB: Ladell Betts: Ladell Betts is a very safe pick here. The Rams have stunk against the run all year, and with the Redskins recent commitment to giving Betts the rock, he should post over 150 yards on Sunday.

RB: LaDainian Tomlinson: LT’s proven that he’s the best player ever in fantasy football. Even in a week where winning isn’t so important for the Chargers, I still think LT will get enough chances to have a top flight day in Seattle.

WR: Terrell Owens: No pro-bowl bid, an Eagles secondary that gets torched by Plaxico Burress, this should be a huge day for Mr. O.

WR: Javon Walker: I full expect the Broncos to lose this game, but that doesn’t mean bad things for J Walk. JW will get plenty of balls throughout this contest, especially after Indy showed everyone how easy it is to throw on Cinci.

TE: Antonio Gates: I like Gates against a couple safeties that haven’t covered people all season long.

K: Adam Vinitieri: This game will take place in Houston, so the weather should be good. Adam will get his chance to kick meaningless field goals that only add to the Colts big lead. Plus, he’s money.

D: Bears: The Bears were bad last week. Do you think that sits well with them? Me neither. Do you think they’re inclined to take it out on Jon Kitna. Me to. It should be fun to watch on “Jacked Up”.

LUCKY’S Week 16 SLEEPERS

Matt Hasselbeck: Okay, this is Matt’s big comeback week. He’ll have to get rid of the ball quick and just trust his instincts against that fierce Charger defensive line, so he’ll be back to the old gun-slinging Matt. Expect Matt to surprise this week.

Jay Cutler: I almost picked this kid for my top spot, but that was too risky. I may pay for it, as he’ll have a giant day against the Bengals, despite a couple turnovers.

Edgerrin James: What happened to the days where Edge was a top pick and not just a sleeper? Oh yes, right before he relocated to Arizona. Well, those days might be coming back, as Edge and the Cardinals offensive line are much improved.

Ron Dayne: This is usually Maurice Drew’s spot, but he’s no longer a sleeper candidate, he’s just good. Even though Indy did a nice job slowing the run against the Bengals, I think they’ll have trouble this week with Dayne. Ron has been running well, so don’t be surprised if he has a nice week at home.

Anquan Boldin: ‘Quan hasn’t been balling lately, but he always torches the 49ers for at least one touchdown. Expect a big day from one of the league’s most underrated wideouts.

Marques Colston: Believe it or not, some leagues have seen Marques on the bench. Well, pick him up, because the Giants don’t have a secondary that can stop this fine Hofstra rookie. He’d be a great final game pick up if you have any pending injuries.

Algae Crumpler: Algae will take advantage of Mike Vick throwing the ball better, and a Panther defense that has seemingly packed it in.

Indy Colts DST: I’m digging the Colts this week. It should be a low scoring game, as Houston is a part of it, so the Colts are guaranteed some point bonuses. A safe play here.

LUCKY’S Week 16 Moss’S

Jon Kitna: Don’t play this guy unless you’re interested in a bad score from a QB whose bound to play less than a half. Can you say, “Lets see what the backups can do?” You betcha!

Deuce McCallister: The Giants will try to stop the run, because if they don’t, they’re in for a long day. Deuce wont’ have a great day.

Keyshawn Johnson: The Panthers are done. Don’t expect much from anyone on their team offensively. In fact, stay away from them all together unless you have Julius Peppers in an IDP league.

Randy Moss: Is this guy still playing football? Haven’t heard anything from him in sometime now.

2006 Fantasy Football Week 15 theRUNDOWN

This Week’s Top Team: Do you hear it? Yeah, there it is, another HUGE week for Lucky in the fantasy realm is in the very near future. If I’m to top 157, I’ll have to do it without LT.

QB: Peyton Manning: To even give the Colts a chance to slip and slide out of their slump, it looks like Peyton must have a career day. One of those 5 touchdown, 300+ yard, Drew Brees type games.

RB: Frank Gore: Gore loves to torch Seattle, and Frank has been running like a man possessed lately (with exception of Week 13’s game). The Niners would love to oust the Hawks, so expect Coach Nolan to let Gore do what he does best. The Hawks don’t tackle well, and Gore runs very hard. That’s a good combo for Gore owners, bad for Seahawk fans.

RB: Rudi Johnson: I feel bad leaving LT out of this weeks top lineup, and I know owners won’t do such a thing, but I see Rudi playing more of a crucial role this week on MNF, and he’ll get a couple scores.

WR: Terrell Owens: One flew over the coo-coo’s nest, and I caught the son of a gun, it was Terrell freaking Owens. One of these days, this super talent will blow up the competition and put everyone’s questions about dropping passes to rest. It will be this week against the Falcons.

WR: Chad Johnson: Like Rudi, Chad will play a vital role in the Bengals upset over the Colts. I know it’s bad to take two guys on the same squad, but against a defense like the Colts, and on an offense like the Bengals, I have to do it.

TE: Antonio Gates: Best tight end in the league, and so, I’ll take him again. KC’s secondary can’t match-up with AG.

K: Jeff Wilkins: Jeff had his worst week every last week against the Bears, trying to lose my playoff game in fantasy football, but this week he’ll bounce back against Oakland. I see 3 or 4 field goals in his weekend future.

D: Bears: Against the Bucs, I can’t think of a better choice. The Ravens will also be quite dominate against Cleveland. But gotta go with the Bears.

LUCKY’S Week 15 SLEEPERS

Matt Hasselbeck: I like Matt against San Francisco. He’s been playing poorly, so you know the Niners will load up on the run. Matt will have plenty of chances to toss touchdown passes in this one.

Jay Cutler: Mr. Cutler will outperform his rookie quarterback competition this week when his Broncos go up against Matt Leinart and the Cardinals. This should be Jay’s best game as a pro.

Ahman Green: Green isn’t as old as many think, he’s still got the burners, expect him to get a chance to use them against the roarless Lions.

Maurice Drew: “Mo is the most explosive player on the Jaguars’ squad. He has to get more touches in the biggest game of Jacksonville’s season. Touches are all this youngster needs to show people what he’s all about.” Every game from here on out is extremely important for the Jags. Like last week, Mo will get his chance to make an impact. With this kid, a chance means production.

Javon Walker: Walker hasn’t benefited from Jay Cutler’s move to starter yet, but this week might be another story, as Shanahan has to be emphasizing getting his biggest offensive playmaker the ball.

Larry Fitzgerald: Finally healthy, Larry has been playing ball the last couple of weeks. Even against Champ Bailey and the Broncos, expect Larry to get his in front of the home crowd.

Vernon Davis: The Hawks have given up big plays all season long, and they don’t tackle well. Davis will take advantage of that, as he’s fast and strong.

St. Louis Rams DST: The Rams have been terrible defensively, but the Raiders are in town this weekend, and that means the Rams have a good chance to outscore most defenses in fantasy football.

LUCKY’S Week 15 Moss’S

Brad Johnson: This guy isn’t a good starting option. Don’t start him. I’d rather start Chris Weinke. What does that tell you?

Travis Henry: He’s been a solid performer for most of the season, but against the Jags, in a must win game for Jacksonville, I think Henry, and the rest of the Titans will struggle in Week 15.

Lee Evans: I know Lee can score from anywhere, but I think his chances will be limited this weekend. He can make me look bad in the blink of an eye, but with a run-heavy game plan, Lee won’t be a great start in week 15.

Randy Moss: Randy made me look good once again, he’ll be on this list until the Patriots trade for him next season.

2006 Fantasy Football Week 14 theRUNDOWN

This Week’s Top Team: I want 150! I want it, I want it. Like Jessica Simpson wants high def, I want this. 1080-I! Beat that!

QB: Drew Brees: Even though Drew didn’t nessecarily tear it up last week against the Niners, I have a feeling he’s going to put up some staggering stats against he Cowboys. See, Dallas doesn’t let a running game go for long, so Brees and the Saints will enter the airways often in Big D.

RB: Ladell Betts: Betts is a downhill runner with a punishing style that makes poor tackling teams pay for their deficiencies. The Eagles have stuggled all year in the tackling category, so don’t expect anything less than a big day from Clinton’s backup.

RB: LaDainian Tomlinson: It hasn’t caught up with me yet, unless I didn’t play this guy and regretted it. I’m sure there will be one week, and as decent as Denver is, it could be them… But I doubt it. The Broncos struggle with All World guys, as it seems to crush their spirits. LT is a SpiritCrusher!

WR: Terrell Owens: I don’t think 2 has had one of his pantented “huge games” on national televison yet, so I’m taking him this week on Sunday Night Football, on NBC. New Orleans doesn’t have secondary suckers who can match Owens’ intensity and playmaking ability, so expect this crazy receiver to go off.

WR: Darrell Jackson: I haven’t had the gut to take D-Jack all season long, and in the times of Matt’s struggles, this pick might bite me in the butt. But it you want flat out consistency in points from the receiver spot, there’s not a better cat in the league than Jackson.

TE: Antonio Gates: Best tight end in the league, bar none. Gotta take him here.

K: Josh Brown: I’m going with the kicker with the biggest game winning nuts around. JB gets it done in the clutch, and that’s the kind of kicker I want anchoring my team every week.

D: Bengals: Talk about a high risk, high reward pick here. Cinci has had some terrible outings, but against the Raiders, this has got to be as big as a 25 point sure thing as there is.

LUCKY’S Week 14 SLEEPERS

Jake Delhomme and Tony Romo: Jake just has to play better eventually, since he’s gone from a top 5 start to a “good luck” sleeper candidate, you can see he’s had a rough season. Tony just has it. Everyone says it, but seriously, he has it. Watch him trade tit for tat with Drew Brees.

Alex Smith: When he’s not handing the ball off to Frank Gore and just watching him dominate the Packers defensive front, he’ll be finding a couple touchdown passes, and I want to be here to say I told you so.

Steven Jackson: He’s a sleeper because he’s heading up against Chicago’s defense, and that can be a killer. But Jackson has the power and speed to touch up the Bears for a century. Just wait and see.

Maurice Drew: Mo is the most explosive player on the Jaguars’ squad. He has to get more touches in the biggest game of Jacksonville’s season. Touches are all this youngster needs to show people what he’s all about.

Javon Walker: Nobody can run on the Chargers, especially a broken Bronco running game with a rookie QB. The Chargers will stack the line. Cutler has a lazer rocket arm, so expect him to hook up with J-Walk for a big score at least once.

Matt Jones: Finally healthy, Matt is about to have a Drew Bennett like close to the season. Remember that? In the last 6 games Drew moved into the top 4 receivers a couple years back? Okay, maybe not that good of a stretch, but Matt will have his day against the Colts miniature secondary.

Ben Watson: I like Big Ben in Miami. I have a sick feeling in my stomach that New England is about to show everyone how overrated this Miami run is. Ben will benefit from Tom’s lesson.

Chicago Bears DST: Because they’re the Bears, they deserve a spot in my article. Stellar defense, all year long.

LUCKY’S Week 14 Moss’S

Brad Johnson: Benched by halftime? Should have been benched by the 4th game.

Joseph Addai: I think the Colts will get back to throwing the rock, because that works well for them, and the Jags won’t let a running back knock them out of playoff contention.

Eddie Kennisson: EK-G wont’ do much against Baltimore. Because he’s Eddie, and they’re Baltimore.

Randy Moss: The Bengals. It’s a big time game, if Randy doesn’t make me look bad here, I don’t know what to say.

2006 Fantasy Football Week 13 theRUNDOWN

This Week’s Top Team: I want 150 fellas. That means almost a 20 point average. Gonna need the big guns this week. I’m not holding back. Here are my Week 13 studs!

QB: Drew Brees: My main yardage leader fantasy scoring machine, Drew Brees, should bang out at least 3 scores against the Niners secondary.

RB: Larry Johnson: Cleveland, meet the guy you’ll have to stop 30+ times to even have a chance at winning this game. LJ, meet the team you’ll stomp all over the field until they start diving at your ankles when you’re going in for your 3rd touchdown on the day. Something like that.

RB: LaDainian Tomlinson: I’ve got to put this guy here. He deserves to be on this list forever. Dude is unreal. Responsible for all 3 of the Charger scores last week, he already has 24 touchdowns on the season. Buffalo, this is your chance, good luck. Fantasywise, this cat averages 6.6 more points per game than any other back.

WR: Steve Smith: Smith is way too good to stay so quiet. It’s not like he’s been bad, 6th in the league, but his huge games just haven’t been there. If Delhomme can figure it out, Smith will dominate the Eagles’ secondary.

WR: Javon Walker: I like J Walk against a Hawks defense that can give up the big play. With a gunslinger like Cutler, and the fact that I think the Broncos will be down, Walker looks to get his chances to make a play.

TE: Todd Heap: Heap takes advantage of defenses that take chances, the Bengals are definitely one of those. Look for Steve McNair to find Heap for a couple big ones in this surprise shoot out.

K: Jeff Wilkins: I kind of like this, Wilkins will make a big run against Arizona this week. Look for at least 4 field goals, and 2 extra points out of the big righty.

D: Bears: I can’t go wrong with Chicago. Wouldn’t be surprised if they shut out the Vikings here.

LUCKY’S Week 13 SLEEPERS

Chad Pennigton and Brett Favre: If the weather permits (check the report on Saturday) I think these two guys will get down to business in an old fashioned shoot out. Coles and Driver should have big days as well.

David Carr: I like Carr again this week. Like last week, the Raiders will try and make David beat them. All he needs to do is throw for 200+ yards and a TD with no more than one interception and the Texans will win. He’ll do better than that.

Steven Jackson: One day this youngster will be in the same league as the L’s (T&J), but right now, he’s numero deuce.

Travis Henry: Last time TH went up against the Colts, he put up an LT/LJ type yardage total. I don’t expect that again, but obviously the Titans know some plays that work against Indy.

Chris Henry: To celebrate the courts throwing Henry’s blood alcohol levels out of his DD court case, Henry will show up and catch at least one touchdown pass on Sunday. It’s nice that the Bengals have a guy as talented as Chris for a #3 receiver.

Terry Glenn: Against a struggling Giants secondary, this #2 wide receiver will have another #1 type game for the Cowboys. Romo likes to find Glenn in the end zone.

Ben Watson: Watson has been laid out to dry by Tom Brady a few too many times, and because of that, has dropped the ball a little too often. Ben is still too talented for Brady not to look for him, and against the Lions, Watson should be easy to find.

Jacksonville Jaguars DST: I’ve got to think the team that’s 3rd in the league in interceptions can get to Joey Harrington a couple times on Sunday. And with Ronnie Brown out, the Jags will crush whomever the Dolphins send in to run the ball. Should mean good things for Jax.

LUCKY’S Week 13 Moss’S

Jake Plummer, Mark Brunell, Drew Bledsoe, and Kerry Collins: Chuckle. I hope you didn’t pick any of these guys for your fantasy football teams.

Brad Johnson: Brad had a huge week in Week 12, but here come the Bears to show everyone why Brad should join Bledsoe, Plummer, Brunell, and Collins, on the Bench.

Edgerrin James: Last weeks totals will be out produced, I’m sure. But on the chance that Edge has another horrendous game, I have to keep him on this list.

Reggie Brown: Without D-Nabb, and with Jeff Garcia, things are looking grim for this young receiver.

Randy Moss: For namesake, I have to keep him here. Though, against the Texans, this might be Moss’s big chance to prove me wrong.

2006 Fantasy Football Week 12 theRUNDOWN

This Week’s Top Team: Bad, bad week in week 11, this week will be much better. On my way to 140+ fantasy points, Ya’ll!

QB: Tony Romo: Tony will dominate a struggling Buc defense while the Cowboys will ride off into the Thank Giving sunset with a big win.

RB: Larry Johnson: Denver’s defense isn’t as good against premium talent opponents as you’d think, so expect the only guy you can compare with LT to have a huge day against the Broncos. LJ will get a donkey’s load of carries and he’ll produce too.

RB: Brian Westbrook: I know the Eagles will have a tough time against Indy, but Westy will get the most carries in the 1st half that he’s had all season. And when he gets chances, he uses them to show the world how good he is. Look for the Eagles to try and run clock by keeping the ball in Brian’s hands.

WR: Terrell Owens: I like Tony, and that means I like TO. No one on the Buccaneer team can get close to guarding Owens, so if he has a tough game, expect it to be because of some drops.

WR: Braylon Edwards: I love BE’s skill set, and against a chatty team like the Bengals, Edwards has never felt more at home. Expect him to work extra hard to try and prove he’s on the same level as Chad Johnson. He’s not, but look for him to have a better fantasy day than OCHO.

TE: Kellen Winslow: I like MR. Soldier boy for the 2nd week in a row. His Hurricanes finally beat a good team when they ousted Boston College on Thursday Night, so KII should play like a solider from THE U.

K: Jeff Wilkins: One more chance Jeff. You give me that 0 point effort again, I’m trading you for Morten Anderson and his 75 year old boot.

D: Panthers: Championship! Just watch this shizzy.

LUCKY’S Week 12 SLEEPERS

Jake Delhomme: Jakey has struggle all year. On Sunday, he goes up against the Redskins. Hooray for his fantasy stock. If he somehow made it to the waiver wire in your league, pick him up pronto!

David Carr: Carr has thrown the ball well, and I’m sure the Jets will try to make him beat them. He might very well just do that, and make me a smart man.

Marion Barber: I finally have learned that Barber gets goal line touches, making him more valuable in FF than the starter in Dallas, Julius Jones.

Maurice Drew: When he gets touches, he make the most of them. He’ll get his chance to carry some of the load against Buffalo, and my guess is he has a big day.

Arnaz Battle: I’m really walking on thin limbs here, but Battle has tons of skills, and his strength and size makes him a nice target against the Rams’ secondary. You need to fill a spot, take a chance on this guy.

Michael Jenkins: Mike’s not a popular start, but sooner or later, Mike Vick will have a decent game through the air, and Big Mike plans to be on the receiving end of a bomb or two.

Owen Daniels: The Jets’ defensive troubles are well documented. Daniels is one of Carr’s favorite targets. He’ll get his chances on Sunday.

San Diego Chargers DST: At Oakland… Are you kidding me? No way these guys score less than 20 fantasy points.

LUCKY’S Week 12 Moss’S

Aaron Brooks: He’s lucky Shawn Merriman is out one more week, or he could have very well not made it out of this game with all his limbs.

Edgerrin James: Edge has played better of late. He’ll go back down the hill against the Vikings on Sunday.

Eddie Kennison: Trent Green hands the ball off to LJ, that’s what he does best. A couple catches for Eddie won’t prove worthy or a start this week.

Randy Moss: He has to be on the list, it’s his list until he proves he’s not just a ball dropping extraordinaire.

2006 Fantasy Football Week 11 theRUNDOWN

This Week’s Top Team: After a “slow” performance last week (don’t want to hurt my teams’ feelings) I’m looking for big things from this bunch of angry playmakers. Lets see how they do.

QB: Carson Palmer: I like Palmer against the Cowboys. I don’t think Dallas has enough fire power to load up and rush Carson, so he’ll have just the right amount of time to find a suddenly scary bunch of receivers.

RB: Thomas Jones: Even the Browns looked good running the ball against the Jets. Thomas Jones will get fed the rock, and I’m ready to reap the benefits of his best game of the season. Can’t pick LT and LJ every week.

RB: Brian Westbrook: He hasn’t been LT of late, but Westbrook will get the ball more with Andy Reid handing over his play calling duties. A big show from Westbrook is about to begin. If he gets 20+ touches, he’ll do huge things on Sunday.

WR: Terrell Owens: I like TO against the Colts, because the Cowboys will need to throw to stay in it, and unlike Drew Bledsoe, Tony Romo knows who the best receiver in Dallas is, and Terrell will get the rock.

WR: Steve Smith: Steve is about to blow up, you can just feel it coming. This week in St. Louis, during a game that should be relatively high scoring (for these two squads) Steve will be the game breaker we all know him to be. I’m ready to catch those points!

TE: Kellen Winslow: I’m ready for Winslow to go ballistic on the Steelers this week, 100+ yards and a score or two. I’m talking old school Tony Gonzalez type shizzy. Let it ride U Soldier U.

K: Jeff Wilkins: Jeff, my man, it’s nice to have you back. Sorry for cutting you for last years’ champ, Neil Rackers. The thing is, you’re back in the line up, and you are about to get it done this week against a defense just tough enough to allow you to kick 4 field goals.

D: Eagles: The Eagles really know how to take advantage of young signal callers, they’ll do Vince dirty this week at home against the Titans.

LUCKY’S Week 11 SLEEPERS

Tony Romo: I’ll stick with Romo as my sleeper, and don’t be surprised if he sticks with Peyton in the fantasy category on Sunday.

Charlie Frye: God knows the Steelers will easily shut down the Browns rushing attack, which means big things, or ah, lots of throws for Charlie Frye. The Steelers have struggled in pass defense… Will it happen again this week?

Julius Jones: The Colts run defense is second to none, er, I mean, second to everyone else in the league. Seriously, if the Cowboys know what’s good for them, they’ll feed JJ the ball and watch him slam the Colts defense. DO they know? That is the question.

Frank Gore: Gore is a flat baller ready to tap into the Seahawks defense for yards by the bundles. Seattle loves to give up the big play, Frank will find a way.

Laveraneus Coles: Coles hasn’t been doin’ it and doin’ it and doin’ it well for the last few games, but I have an inkling, a crazy Lucky feeling, that against the Bears, Coles will boast a big total.

Donald Driver: DD Driver has been hooking it up over the last few weeks, expect more of that against a suspect Patriot secondary. A big game for this DD is on the road right ahead.

Jeremy Stevens: Girl beater finally caught a touchdown pass last week, very different from drop TD pass, which he had done a few times thus far. Stevens will get in Wallace’s good graces this week with a couple more key catches.

Buffalo Bills DST: The Bills will put it all together this week against the Texans.

LUCKY’S Week 11 Moss’S

Mike Vick: Sure, with his rushing yards, he’s always a decent play, but I’m putting him here thinking he might not touch 15 fantasy points, so put your back up in if the match up is right.

Warrick Dunn: I was going to put Rudi in here, but I remembered my promise, and Dunn is a better option for a tough week anyway. Vick hasn’t been throwing well, which means the Ravens will come out as honest as a hooker in church. Yes, they’ll be ready for Mr. Dunn.

Santana Moss: With Jason Campbell in, I think Moss’ production will be effected in a bad way.

Randy Moss: Randy against Ty Law. Boy, I just don’t think Randy is on his way off my wussy list, I’ve got to be honest. With a ‘tude like that, this donkey might change the name of this section, what do you think, “Lucky’s Week 10 Moss’s”. I like it. Hell I’m doing it.
