Fantasy Focus Review: Week 17 Fantasy Football

And Week 17 comes and it goes, and it leaves me at the top. I dominated the rankings this week, as my old uncle finished a lengthy fourth, while Josh and Ryan tied for 3rd – haha – A trio of top spots in the rankings gave me the final gold. Hope you enjoyed the new and improved focus! Here’s how the rest of the fantasy focus found its way….

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. Ray Rice –Somebody went off against the Raiders, it just wasn’t Ray. Willis McGahee made the most of his time, going for 34 fantasy points and #2 RB in Week 17, Ray still had 12 fantasy points with 70 rushing yards… C-
2. Chris Johnson–  CJ finished 3rd amongst RBs, but this guy had 4000 carries in the last 10 weeks, careful next year folks… A
3. Jonathan Stewart – J-Stew was 11th ranked RB in Week 17, a nice day in limited duty. 18 points.  A-
4. Jay Cutler – Cutler finished out of the top spot by a single point, just one behind Brett, great finish. A+
5. Miles Austin– 16 fantasy points, 13th WR this week, in a big win for the Cowboys. B

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. DeSean Jackson –Just 7 fantasy points for Jackson in the Boys beatdown of the Eagles. Yuck. I bet he has a lot more next week… F
2. Carnell Williams– Caddy finished the season well, 21st RB in Week 17, a solid total, plus he finished the season healthy for the first time in a long time. C+
3. Santonio Holmes – Just five points for Holmes, as Hines was the main guy getting the rock in that win. F
4. Hines Ward – 22nd WR this week for Hines with 14 fantasy points, a nice final week in a great season for him. B+
5. Sydney Rice – Sidney blew up on the dying Giants, finishing 2nd amongst WRs with 29 fantasy points.  A+

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Jerome Harrison –#8 overall, this guy has carried a double load over the last 3 games, maybe that’s because Magini realizes how stupid he was for not giving Jerome the ball earlier. A+
2. Matt Forte – Matt finished 14th amongst RBs with 15 fantasy points, a solid day to end a tough year. B+
3. Arian Foster– 4th RB this week, 28 fantasy points for the former Vol, helped me place in the money… A+
4. Quentin Ganther– Ganther was a miss again as Roc Cartwright was the lead ball carrier in that backfield. F
5. Devin Aromashadu– Two touchdowns helped the youngsters cause, I think we’ll remember the end of this year as the start of Devin’s legit productions as a #2 WR with upside… A+

Super Sleepers for Playoff Push…

1. Donald Brown – Mike Hart got the carries, as Brown didn’t do much with his 4 early carries, not gaining a single yard. F-
2. Sammy Morris –Sammy wasn’t the hot back, and suddenly it was Fred Taylor getting the goal line carries. F
3. Shonn Greene –He had solid production for 14 carries, 62 yards, but no touchdown made him very mediocre. C-
4. Greg Camarillo – Another disappointing day for Greg, got me again. F

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Colts Starters– Colts starters were all worth sitting, maybe Dallas Clark was worth a play… A
2. Patriots Starters– No normal Pats fantasy studs went off, but Randy had 5 grabs for 75 yards. Justin Edelman came on after Welker’s injury to go over 100 yards on 10 catches. Fred Taylor had 2 touchdowns. Medium day, and Brady did nothing. B+
3. Bengals Starters – Well, a lot of them played, but I couldn’t have been more right on this one. A+
4. Saints Starters – You bet. It was time to rest for the Saints, all the way to 13-3… A+
5. Packers Starters– I missed here. All the guys had decent days, nobody went off, but Grant had 2 touchdowns, Rodgers threw for 235 and a touchdown, just mediocre days for guys aside from Grant. B-

Who did we miss? Always some big surprises by years’ end, and while we missed a couple of those, I think we missed a couple easy ones too…

QB: Ryan Fitzpatrick (4th – taking advantage of the Colts youngsters), Aaron Rodgers (9th) Daunte Culpepper (10th – nice having old baby-hands in the Top 10 again, the guy has had some tough luck, that’s for sure)

RB: Jamaal Charles (1st, the cat goes for 256 yard rushing and isn’t on a single list, awesome), Willis McGahee (2nd, I thought Rice would have a huge day, right team, wrong back), Fred Jackson (3rd, looks like I was a week early, Jackson also busted over 200 yards on the ground), Arian Foster (4th, I liked him as a sleeper, but looks like he was even better than that), Knowshon Moreno (7th, despite losing to the Chiefs, Moreno did work, scoring 2 TDs and having his best fantasy day of the season), Jason Snelling (10th, the cat runs hard, no doubt)

WR: Jabar Gaffney (1st, the guy had one hell of a day in the Broncos loss), Malcom Floyd (3rd, Floyd was Volek’s main target), Julian Edelman (5th, Welker went down, Edelman stepped in and produced very well), Devon Bess (7th, good day for the highest scoring Dolphins WR), Patrick Crayton (7th, good day all around), Jacoby Jones (9th, a big drop but an even bigger catch highlighted Jones’ big day)

TE: Zach Miller (1st, the Jacksonville version of the name put up 26 fantasy points to lead all TEs), Joel Dreessen (3rd, doing his best Owen Daniels impersonation, Joel put up a 20 spot in the Jags big loss)

D/ST: Buffalo Bills (4th – took advantage of those Colts back-ups), Cowboys (6th, gave it to the Eagles real nice like)

Fantasy Focus Review: Week 16 Fantasy Football Revisited

Week 16 saw Josh Arsenault take the top spot again, and I’m beginning to think he’s making a run at my fantasy guru crown – not liking it one bit. Week 16 was a tough one, the finals for most fantasy leagues, and a couple key players took a seat, not caring one bit about fantasy implications. However, I mentioned some must-have pickups in my sleeper sections, and I know a couple worked out, pushing some fantasy folks to championships. Here’s the review.

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. Fred Jackson – Mr. Jackson had a really down week for a Bills team that got throttled. 6pts…  F-
2. Chris Johnson–  Him and AP tied for 4th this week. And with 26 points they were just a few out of 1st. A
3. Aaron Rodgers – Rodgers actually finished 13th amongst QBs with just 15 fantasy points. Poop. C-
4. Adrian Peterson – My man AP was 4th amongst RBs in Week 16, just 3 fantasy points out of first. A
5. Philip Rivers – Prince Philip was 7 points better than Rodgers, putting up 22, but good for just the 8th QB. B-

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. Beanie Wells –15th RB in Week 16, ahead of Benson, Ray Rice, and Jones-Drew. B
2. Ricky Williams– 28th ranked RB in Week 16, I wasn’t impressed with his numbers at all. C-
3. Jason Snelling – I expected Snelling to do lots of work against the Bills, but Buffalo ganged up on the run and limited him to 7 fantasy points. 43rd ranked RB. F
4. Hines Ward – I think Hines has a great game against his favorite foes.
5. Greg Jennings – Tough season, but the upside is against Seattle on Sunday.

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Larry Johnson –Larry had just one fantasy points as I completely whiffed, I thought they’d give Benson a rest, maybe next week! Sorry… F
2. Pierre Thomas – Thomas got hurt, but before going down early, he managed 12 fantasy points. Solid. B
3. Vince Young– Vince finally tallied up a stinker, good for just 7 points and in the high twentys amongst QBs. F
4. Jon Stewart–I give you the #1 ranked fantasy running back in Week 16… Good sleeper indeed. A+
5. Fred Davis– He had just 4 fantasy points as the Redskins got throttled. F

Super Sleepers for Playoff Push…

1. Jerome Harrison – He’s still the best runner in Cleveland, and was ranked 10th getting plenty of carries in Week 16. A+
2. Quinton Ganther – Everyone should have kept sleeping when it came to picking up Ganther. 3 pts. F
3. David Thomas – Thomas had 7 fantasy points before getting hurt, not a bad day for a TE, 16th overall. C+
5. Greg Camarillo – Under 10 fantasy points for the 2nd straight week, miss. D-
6. Deon Butler – The Hawks were almost as terrible as this pick, wait, they were even worse. F

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Peyton Manning– There you have it, I said you’d hate or love me, and you better love me for this one. A+
2. David Garrard– 21st amongst QBs, not startable, Matt Moore, Orton, Henne, Alex Smith, and Cassel all played better. A-
3. Reggie Wayne – 63rd overall, you’re welcome for the kind advice here, hopefully it made up for bad advice earlier. A
4. Thomas Jones –Jones finished with 16 fantasy points, 13th amongst RBs, just a couple points behind… D
5. LaDainian Tomlinson– LT. Yeah, I missed on both these guys as a touchdown each certainly helped the fantasy totals. F

Fantasy Focus: Week 17 Fantasy Football Rankings

If your into Week 17, you’re in the finals and your league is crazy for doing Week 17 finals – but there’s some hope! A- you likely are partaking in the winnings no matter what, and B- despite you having some guys that won’t be worth suiting up despite being awesome, I have a handful of guys ready to rock to the top spot despite low rankings. For the glory!!!

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. Ray Rice – The Raiders can’t handle the run and the Ravens need a win to get into the playoffs. Here, Ray, run…
2. Chris Johnson–  He’s going for 2000 yards on the season, and the all-time single season yards from scrimmage deal. And all this against the Hawks. You bet!
3. Jonathan Stewart – The Saints will end up resting guys and J-Stew will end up rocking the yardage.
4. Jay Cutler – Will the Bears let up and lose this week? I don’t think so, but either way, passing yards on they way!
5. Miles Austin– Tony has been throwing it great, and Miles has speed, great hands and his QB’s trust.

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. DeSean Jackson –The Cowboys’ worst nightmare, always a cut away from a long touchdown.
2. Carnell Williams– Caddy will come to play on Sunday, making it through a full season is reason to blow up!
3. Santonio Holmes – Like his teammate at WR, these two guys should do work in Miami.
4. Hines Ward – Should be good against the Dolphins leaky secondary.
5. Sydney Rice – The Giants secondary has been brutal, and Rice has been Favre’s go-to-guy.

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Jerome Harrison –No reason to jump off his back, he’s been doing work for me!
2. Matt Forte – Almost a forgotten man, Forte should have a solid day against the Lions.
3. Arian Foster– Sure, he’s going up against a decent Patriots defensive front, but how long will they keep their starters in?
4. Quentin Ganther– Tough to want to start him after last week’s poo-pile, but I think he will be solid.
5. Devin Aromashadu– The kid has legit speed, and he goes to get the ball. Better yet, Jay likes to throw it to him.

Super Sleepers for Playoff Push…

1. Donald Brown – I think the rookie will get the lion’s share of the carries, good thing he’s playing Buffalo.
2. Sammy Morris – He seems to be the guy New England will use on Sunday – and he can pound away at yardage.
3. Shonn Greene –I see Greene taking over for Thomas Jones when the game is in the Jets’ hands, and that could be good.
4. Greg Camarillo – Should be good for at least 12 fantasy points this week vs. Pittsburgh.

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Colts Starters– I’d be scared to start all the following starters for their teams, and I’m starting Tom Brady in one league despite my better judgment in not trusting Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.

Fantasy Focus Review: Week 15 Fantasy Football

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. Wes Welker – Welker and the Pats offense basically got shutdown in a win over the Bills, what has happened to Terrific Tom and the wonder kids? F
2. Ray Rice –  Just 18th amongst RBs with 14 fantasy points, I wanted more. C+
3. Adrian Peterson – Minnesota didn’t get AP the ball enough, and they paid the ultimate price, getting blown out by Carolina… F
4. Drew Brees – 19th amongst QBs, not the outcome I, and many Brees owners wanted. F
5. Chris Johnson – CJ had his worst week in ages, still 15th overall with 15 fantasy points. B-

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. DeSean Jackson – DeSean Jackson is very, very good. And so fast. He put up great numbers again. A
2. Jamal Charles – 5th running back in Week 15, kid has been a legit force for weeks now. A+
3. Thomas Jones – Outscored by his brother, never a good thing, Thomas didn’t get the ball enough against the Falcons. Some offenses are so stupid. F
4. Cedric Benson –32nd overall, Benson’s 15 carries went for just 53 yards. He has yet to score since coming back from injury. D
5. Brandon Jacobs – 15 carries for 52 yards, whoopy-de-doo… F

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Justin Forsett –32nd RB in Week 15, not the worst day every for a last minute pick-up, but he continues to out-produce his touch numbers, Jim Mora=tool-shed. C
2. Quentin Ganther – Not many yards, but a TD and a couple catches made him the 25th ranked RB, not too shabby. B
3. Vince Young– 7th QB this week with 27 fantasy points, how you like me no? A+
4. Laurence Maroney– 18th amongst RBs, probably not a super sleeper, but a solid start this week. B
5. Alex Smith– Smith was pretty useless this week as aside from Brett and Hass, almost every starter was better. F
6. Steve Breaston – Same old same the last few weeks, a few catches for 30 something yards – not what I was hoping for. D-

Super Sleepers for Playoff Push…

1. Brady Quinn – Quinn’s offense gained over 350 yards, but his part was the handoff role. Quinn wasn’t a Top 30 signal caller, brutal. F
2. Chris Jennings – Chris didn’t do a lot with his carries, and Jerome Harrison did, going for 49 fantasy points, and I was saying, “Hey! Those are my guy’s fantasy points… I hate you Eric Man-Gina!” F
3. Maurice Morris – Morris managed 26 fantasy points this week, good for 3rd amongst RBs – not so bad for a super sleeper last minute pick up! A+
4. Devin Aromashodu – Just 3 fantasy points for Devin, Cutler wasn’t at his best, and the Bears got killed. F
5. Greg Camarillo – I said the late pick up would give your 5 or more grabs for 50 or more yards, I was just short, he caught 5 for 46 yards… Not a bad pick up by any means. B
6. Deon Butler –Hasselbeck was terrible and Butler had 3 catches for 30 yards. Oh Matt. D

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Hines Ward– 15th receiver this week, every time I go against him, he gets me! F
2. Mario Manningham– Hakeem Nicks went down, and Manningham benefited. 31st WR this week. D
3. Matt Forte – 6 fantasy points for Matt.. Gross. Again. A
4. LeSean McCoy –22nd RB in Week 15, he didn’t even get the most carries for the Eagles as Leonard Weaver did more work. But McCoy scored, and was better than I predicted. D
5. Kyle Orton– Orton managed a nice loss to Oakland, but he still went for 18 fantasy points, ranking him 15th amongst QBs, not so bad, not so great. C-

Fantasy Focus Review: Week 14 Fantasy Football Rankings

The first week of the playoffs saw me win playoff match-ups in all 3 of the leagues in which I went to the post season. It didn’t see me get the top spot in the fantasy rankings, though, as Josh Arsenault grabbed the top spot while predicting each of the Top 4 RBs in his Top 5 list. We misses a lot of guys this week, and blew it on some players for sure. This is how Week 14’s Fantasy Focus went down.

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. Drew Brees – A point out of 1st placed amongst QBs, 29 big ones… A+
2. Ray Rice – Just like I figured, the Ray Rice and the Ravens did work – #3 RB this week. A+
3. Sidney Rice – 19th WR in Week 14, not too shabby, not the awesomeness I was hoping for. B-
4. Ben Roethlisberger – UGH…. F
5. Chris Johnson – You can’t leave this guy off your Top 5, the best RB again in Week 14 – A+

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. Terrell Owens – Owens got a touchdown, but still just 9 fantasy points. D+
2. Mike Sims-Walker – A calf injury the day after I wrote this had him out on game day. F
3. Thomas Jones – 22 fantasy points for TJ, doing work, Top 10 RB in Week 14. A
4. Ricky Williams –Ricky kept his stellar play going with 16 points, ranking him 14th. A-
5. Percy Harvin –A migraine had Harvin out for Week 14, tough on fantasy owners. F

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Justin Forsett –Despite a terrible day for Hawks, Forsett was the 21st RB, not a bad play. B-
2. Michael Crabtree – Could be a big week for Crabtree, he’s been getting the targets, he’ll cash in soon.
3. Vince Young– “He’s rated as the 25th QB in ESPN this week, I think he cuts that in half. At least.” Come on, the guy was ranked 11th – perfect. A
4. Jamal Charles– #2 RB in Week 14, and officially escaping sleeper status. A+
5. Daunte Culpepper– Tough day for Pep, Stafford didn’t play and still had 2 fewer points than Daunte… Whoops… F-

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Matt Forte– 25 carries for 55 yards earlier this year, only 12 carries for 51 yards this time around, but that’s it, four catches for 17 yards gave him 10 and ranked him 29th. A-
2. Steve Smith– 16th overall this week, he caught a couple deep balls, whoops. F
3. Frank Gore – 7th rated rusher and he straight dominated one of the better run defenses in the league, whoops… F
4. Eli Manning – Eli didn’t struggle in score-fest 2009, he put up the #1 points this week. F
5. T.J. Houshmandzadeh– 29th overall this week, not the worst ever, but not good either. C-

***It turns out I was right about DeSean Jackson, Michael Turner, and DeAngelo Williams, and the first was definitely a chance worth taking. ***

Week 14 Fantasy Rankings

Who did we miss? Good question, this week we missed a lot of guys. Here’s the position by position breakdown:

Quarterbacks: Eli Manning (#1), Donovan McNabb (#4) and Jason Campbell (#5) made it three guys in the Top 5 nobody ranked. Kyle Orton, Tony Romo, Jay Cutler, and Chris Redman finished 6,7,8, and 9. Whoops.

Running backs: Ryan Grant, Reggie Bush, Frank Gore, Quinton Ganther finished 5-8 and Willis McGahee was 10th amongst running backs to round off the Top 10. Amazingly, Josh Arsenault grabbed 1-4 in this week’s rankings. Doing work.

Wide Receivers: Andre Johnson had a huge week, 42 fantasy points, but that’s right, he finished 2nd. 2nd to Brandon Marshall whom nobody had in their top 5. Marshall would have finished tied for 4th with just his catches alone. The kid grabbed 21 balls. His 53 fantasy points were legit. DeSean Jackson played, and finished 3rd amongst receivers. Devin Aromashodu tied for 4th with Hakeem Nicks and Wes Welker. Derrick Mason, Austin Miles, Vincent Jackson, and Johnny Knox rounded out the Top 10 receivers. Only 2 of the Top 10 were represented in our rankings.

Tight Ends: Kevin Boss and Fred Davis, both tied for 2nd with 20 fantasy points. Brent Celek was 5th and Algae Crumpler went old school on us and finished 5th tied with Antonio Gates. Ben Watson and John Carlson were 8th and 9th.

DSTs: The 49ers and Texans finished 2 and 3. The Browns shut down the Steelers in dominant defensive fashion and garnered a tie for 5th with the Eagles.

Fantasy Focus: Week 13 Fantasy Football Preview & Projections

Alright, all four guys are back in action and ready to go for Thursday Night’s game – no late picks, no last second hurrah, no tricky back-up running back picks either. This week is full go like Al Davis’s battery, like Big Ben’s big bucket on his head, like Tom Brady’s redemption song – it should be a great week, lucky number 13 as far as I’m concerned. I’m going to celebrate with this week’s fantasy title just like a few years ago when I picked EVERY SINGLE GAME CORRECTLY in my free picks column, going 16-0 like it was nothing. Here’s what I’ve got for NFL Week 13’s Fantasy Rankings & Projections!

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. Chris Johnson– How can you not put this guy atop this list, especially against a hurting Colts D.
2. Reggie Wayne – Reggie gets the Titans this week, and you know Peyton’s throwing for 350+.
3. Peyton Manning – Lots of guys to like this week, I think Peyton throws about 50 times.
4. Ray Rice – I think Ray does his fair share of tormenting in Week 13, this week the Packers draw Ray.
5. Tom Brady– The Fins aren’t terrible in the secondary, but Tom after a bad game, watch out for him.

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. Rashard Mendenhall – The Raiders might get a healthy helping of Rashard this week.
2. Ricky Williams – I know the Pats are tough, but I bet Ricky gets 25 carries this week. That’s good.
3. Miles Austin – Really good player going against a banged up defense, and his QB’s favorite WR.
4. Knowshon Moreno –He’s getting better and better and his match-up is peachy.
5. Percy Harvin – Coverages are starting to role towards Sydney Rice, that’s good news for Harvin’s #s.

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Jeremy Maclin –I have J-Mac down as a Top 5 starter this week, but I’m crazy. He should be good.
2. Michael Crabtree – I think Crab’s a good start this week against the Hawks. He’s physical, they aren’t.
3. Jason Avant – The Eagles are likely without DeSean Jackson – that’s good news for those that got Avant.
4. LeSean McCoy– Against Atlanta, he’s a pretty good bet for 120+ yards total offense and catches too.
5. Chris Chambers–Chambers has a tough match-up this week, but I still think he’s a good option.

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Julius Jones– he’s back! but so what? he plays a tough run D and he’s not the best runner in Seattle.
2. Matthew Stafford– no way, no how, I’d rather pick up and start Josh Freeman or even, gulp, Brady Quinn.
3. Ben Roethlisberger – I think the Raiders bring blitzes often, and I also think Ben hands the ball off a lot.
4. Santonio Holmes– I don’t like Holmes’ chances for another solid outing.
5. Terrell Owens– I know he’s finally been good, but I can’t start him against Revis.

Fantasy Focus Review: Week 12 Fantasy Football

It happened again… I came in last. Not back to back or anything, I mean last week I pulled out another win – but this week Ryan got his first taste of 1st place, but fresh in the spirit of Thanksgiving, both Josh and Ryan shared top honors. The fat old man finished just ahead of me, winning the family battle for one of the few times this year. It was close, and we all had some pretty poor picks, but Ryan had some great QB selections to go with his solid RBs while Josh consistently stayed in the middle and got a nice TE win to push him over the top. With Thanksgiving over and done with, I’m getting back down to business in Week 13 – here’s Week 12’s review!

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. Adrian Peterson– Peterson was okay, 15th RB this week, 15 fantasy points – Vikes aren’t over-using him. In fact, Chester Taylor outscored AP by 5 fantasy points this week. B-
2. Ricky Williams – Ricky was in AP’s boat, and while that’s not too bad at all, it’s not great this week. B
3. Larry Fitzgerald – Leinart didn’t look Larry’s way all that often, and no big chances – Larry had a bad week. F
4. Randy Moss – Tom missed Randy a few times, and a lot of yards and fantasy points were left on the table. F
5. Aaron Rodgers– #3 QB this week, a great thanksgiving for Mr. Rodgers neighborhood… A

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. Wes Welker – Wes had a down day, 6 catches, sure, but just 32 yards, finished 32nd amongst WRs. D+
2. Joe Flacco – 16th QB this week with 15 fantasy points, not bad, but not a great solid start really. B-
3. Kellen Winslow – Winslow finished 6th, he’s still one of the most talented TEs in the league. A-
4. Donald Driver –Tied with Miles Austin as the top receiver in Week 12. A+
5. Sidney Rice –Tied with a bunch at #18 WR this week, not a bad day for the consistent standout. B

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Justin Forsett –#3 running back this week as Julius stayed out another week. Can’t wait for Mora to sit him. A
2. Michael Crabtree – 45th ranked receiver this week, not good enough, not terrible though. C-
3. Donnie Avery – 18th WR this week, a pretty good day for Mr. Avery tallying 14 fantasy points. B+
4. LeSean McCoy– Right there with AP and Ricky Williams and MJD – a pretty solid week for the rookie. A-
5. Chris Chambers– 6th WR this week, where did this guy disappear to over the last few years? A+

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Matt Forte– 34th running back this week with 9 fantasy points, his 4 receptions were almost half his points. A
2. Steve Smith– 1 catch for 5 yards, I ended up starting him in a league, my options were bad. Not this bad. A+
3. Rashard Mendenhall – Mendenhall actually ran really tough, he was the 24th ranked RB, not too bad. B-
4. Roy Williams – 45th rated receiver, not a # I would have wanted in my starting line-up. B+
5. Chad Henne– Only 4 starting QBs were worse than Henne, but hey, one was Tom Brady. A

Who did we miss this week? Quite a few guys… Here are the guys we missed from the Top 5 in each positional breakdown….

QB: Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tony Romo both tied with Philip Rivers for 4th place amongst quarterbacks. Phil got picked, Fitzy and Romo didn’t.

RB: Fred Jackson finished 1st amongst RBs, Jamal Charles 4th, and Laurence Maroney tied Steven Jackson for 5th. Red Red Ryan made one hell of a pick taking Forsett.

WR: Donald Driver (by Kauffman again) was the only guy in the Top 5 that saw a spot in any of our Top 5s. Miles Austin (1), Percy Harvin (3), Kenny Britt (4), and Marques Colston (5) filled out the Top 5.

TE: Together, we didn’t miss a single TE in the Top 5. The next highest guys we didn’t select was Fred Davis (8th overall).

DST: Here’s a list of the Top 5 defenses: Jets, Packers, Chargers, 49ers, Broncos. I can’t remember right off hand who got picked, and who didn’t, but I imagine nobody picked the 49ers and Broncos, and I think the Jets were left off everyone’s list as well.

Sorry for the quick intro (or you’re welcome, depending on what you think of introductions and/or my humor) but it’s Thanks Giving, I’m at the future in-laws, and well, I better slam this out asap or it’s trouble for me….

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. Adrian Peterson– The match-up isn’t great (like Lions, Chiefs, or Bills) but AP does good work randomly.
2. Ricky Williams – I watched him run, and he’s very, very good. He meets the Bills this week. There you have it.
3. Larry Fitzgerald – The Titans can’t handle Larry. Not even with Matt Leinart, if Kurt sits this one out.
4. Randy Moss – I know the Saints D has been okay, but I have a feeling the Patriots will be scoring often.
5. Aaron Rodgers– The Packers love to pass, you can do that against the Lions as much as you want.

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. Wes Welker – We go PPR here, and there’s not more of a sure thing than Wes (maybe Reggie).
2. Joe Flacco – Most will sit him, against a Polamalu-less Steelers secondary, I like his chances.
3. Kellen Winslow – Against the Falcons, with no safeties that can guard him, I’ll put a TE in this list for the 1st time.
4. Donald Driver –He was picked much lower than Greg Jennings, but he’s outperformed him almost each week.
5. Sidney Rice –He’s back, and against Chicago, he makes a lot of sense.

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Justin Forsett – He’s not starting, Jim Mora is an idiot, but how can he not get 10-15 touches?
2. Michael Crabtree – Crab needs to have a big game for the 49ers, I think he’ll do well against the Jags.
3. Donnie Avery – Avery is a good play against a Hawks defense that loves to give up the big play.
4. LeSean McCoy– The Redskins aren’t as good against the run as they were earlier, if the Eagles want to win they’ll run.
5. Chris Chambers– Okay, Chris, obviously you are showing the Chargers what they’re missing, now play them!

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Matt Forte– Poor guy, he’s a good back, something is crushing him down like rocks. This time it’s the Vikings.
2. Steve Smith– Steve Smith minus Jake Delhomme > Derrelle Revis, but, Steve Smith + Jake Delhomme < Revis….
3. Rashard Mendenhall – I love Mendenhall, but I don’t love him against the Ravens, especially with Ben hurting.
4. Roy Williams – Well, I’m guessing Nnamdi will be guarding Austin, but I still don’t like Williams.
5. Chad Henne– Good match-up, but I think the Dolphins run to much to make Chad worth while.

***You may take the plunge, but I still think starting Michael Turner or Big Ben (especially against that hard hitting defense) is a tough chance to take. Watch out for those injuries!***

Fantasy Focus Review: Week 11 Fantasy Football Grading

What an unlikely week – I mean the Browns and Lions (not in that order) owned the top two fantasy spots in Week 11, that alone is straight nuts. The chances of that happening? Zero percent. Yes folks, magic, miracles, whatever you want to call it, the stuff happens. But one thing returned to normalcy – I stepped it up and won the writer rankings easily this last week. Ah…. This is how the rest of the fantasy week went down.

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. Maurice Jones Drew– MJD was the object of the Bills defense, and Buffalo led most of the game so he just had a mediocre week, good for 12th RB this week, 17 fantasy points. B
2. Chris Johnson – “held in check” by the Texans, CJ had 151 rush yards, but that’s it. B-
3. Adrian Peterson – AP was limited by the Seahawks defense, no TDs for only the 2nd time this year. 13 fantasy points and a disappointing day for owners everywhere. C-
4. Peyton Manning – 19th amongst QBs, not a good pick by me, thought he’d do more. F
5. Ray Rice– The 8th RB in Week 11, Ray had 20 fantasy points – a solid day for Baltimore. B+

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. Steve Smith (NYG) – 36th WR this week, not nearly the day I thought he’d have. C
2. Rashard Mendenhall – Mendenhall had a nice day for the losing team. 6th overall. A
3. DeSean Jackson – 6th WR this week, got behind the defense for a long one. Again. A+
4. Ricky Williams –I said I’d start him if I had him. He was the top RB in Week 11. A+
5. Sidney Rice –5th WR this week. Stud. I’m glad Brett helped the coaches realize it. A+

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Justin Forsett – 8 carries for just 9 yards, but scored. And caught 8 balls for 80. 5th RB. A+
2. Beanie Wells – Was 16th RB, finished ahead of Addai, Chris Johnson, and DeAngelo. A
3. Jeremy Maclin –33rd WR with 13 fantasy points. Decent day for J-Mac. B-
4. LeSean McCoy– 22nd RB this week for McCoy, not a bad #2 RB and a good flex. B+
5. Fred Jackson–Lynch got hurt, which helped Jackson, but still just the 30th RB. Not bad. B-

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Joseph Addai– 19th RB, not a great number for Addai, but solid enough. C-
2. Derrick Mason– Derrick Mason had a day, making me look foolish. #9 WR… F
3. Jay Cutler – 19th quarterback overall, Jay had a nice interception to end it. Yep. B+
4. Roy Williams – Roy boy had 4 targets in Week 11, he converted 0 of those. Ha. A++
5. Matthew Stafford– And Matthew Stafford had the best day ever for a rookie. Yep. F—

Who did we miss in Week 11, from QB to DST, here’s a short list and their respective rankings.

QB – Matthew Stafford (1), Brady Quinn (2), and Brett Favre (3) were all missed by every top 5 list in the show. One doesn’t look like the other, that’s for sure. If you can predict the next time Stafford and Quinn will finish 1, 2 – you have my blessing to take over my job.

RB – 1-6 were ignored by everyone, they went like this… Ricky Williams, Jamal Charles, Kevin Smith, Jason Snelling, Justin Forsett, and Ryan Grant. I knew Ricky was going to have a nice week, and Kevin Smith had upside going against the Browns run-D, but Snelling against the Giants? Justin Forsett against the Vikings? Ryan Grant had a pretty damn good week against a run D that has been tough all year.

WR – Wes Welker (1), Terrell Owens (2), Hines Ward (4), Anquan Boldin, (7) Greg Jennings (8), Derrick Mason (9), and Mike Sims-Walker (10) – I think Walker might be right at the top of wide receiver consistency lists – when he plays, and starts, he’s been down right solid. Mason was on my bench list this week, so it didn’t work out well for me. Greg Jennings had his best performance of the year. Anquan Boldin grabbed the vision of Kurt Warner while Kurt was on the field, Hines got back on track against the Chiefs secondary – and Wes Welker and TO had HUGE days at the top. We caught something like 35 balls while TO went for nearly 200 yards in a tough loss for the Bills.

TE – Kevin Boss (1), Heath Miller (2), Visanthe Shiancoe (5), and Brandon Petitgrew (6) – were the top 4 options that we left off the list. TE’s are tough, man, what can you say? Just like receivers, predicting their hot games are tough.

Def/ST – We pretty much sucked defensively this week, all picking high teen and some twenty numbers – of course we ranked our defenses very close with each other. The Patriots (1) Chargers (3) and Redskins (4) all missed our Top 5 lists. Damn us!

Fantasy Focus Review: NFL Week 10 Fantasy Football

Oh, it was too good of a start for me – this week was an all time low for Ol’ Lucky Lester – it was also an all-time “Team Lucky Lester” low in the fantasy rankings as I swept the 4th spot in every single category. Tough week indeed! Josh took 1st place, Red Red Ryan (despite his inability to communicate with anyone during his new Modern Warfare game’s release month) managed to wrap up 2nd place, while Papa Weimer and then Me, definitely in that order, came in 3rd and 4th. I’ll try to get back on track next week, but for now, this is how Week 10 went down – and I do mean DOWN!

1. Ray Rice– 16th RB in Week 10, 18 fantasy points, the Browns shut him out of the passing attack. C
2. Chris Johnson – #1 overall fantasy player. A+
3. Michael Turner – Hurt in the 2nd quarter, had 111 yards on 9 carries. B
4. DeAngelo Williams – DeAngelo was rested a bit, as Jon Stewart carried more of the load. Will had 120 yards from scrimmage, but no touchdowns and was just the 21st RB in Week 10. C-
5. Thomas Jones– Thomas Jones didn’t carve up the Jags like I thought he would, 77 yards and a TD. C-

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. Carson Palmer – No offensive TDs in this game, Palmer was 23rd QB in Week 10. F
2. Percy Harvin – 40th WR overall in Week 10, 9 fantasy point, obviously Rice was getting Brett’s passes. C
3. Pierre Thomas – Reggie Bush was the productive runner of choice in Week 10, he was 8th, PT out of Top 30. F
4. Devin Hester – 29th WR in Week 10, not great, not too shabby. Maybe if Cutler didn’t throw 5 to the Niners…  B-
5. Sidney Rice –4th WR this week, one of the greatest receiving days in Viking history with 201 yards. No TDs… A

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Reggie Bush – Bush suprised everyone (besides me) and busted 6 rushes for 86 yards and two total TDs. A+
2. Beanie Wells – “Call it a feeling, Beanie might have his best game as a pro.” Got it right! #3 RB in Week 10. A+
3. Steve Breaston –Ta-tas gets 16th WR spot in Week 10, awesome for a #3 receiver. A
4. Mark Sanchez– Sanchez was 21st amongst QBs in Week 10, 10 fantasy points – he hurt the Jets… D+
5. Ricky Williams – Ricky had 100 yards rushing, getting 20 carries when Brown went down. 24th RB. B-

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Joseph Addai– Addai was 13th RB in Week 10. Through 3 quarters he had done nothing. But in the 4th Addai totaled 2 touchdowns. He had just 68 total yards in Week 10. Still, his 2 TDs made his day nice. F
2. Wes Welker– I was close on the catch prediction, but wrong on the yards, Wes had 9 for 94- a good week. F
3. Matt Forte – Forte had 20 carries for 41 yards. A. Oh wait, 8 grabs for 120 yards too? Shoot. F
4. Mike Sims-Walker– 3 catches for 49 yards and a score. Not great, but pretty decent against Revis. C-
5. Julius Jones– He got hurt, but I’ll take my A+ – I need it this week! A+

QB – Marc Bulger (5), Philip Rivers (6), Jake Delhomme (7) – weird, nobody had the balls to pick Marc and Jake.

RB – Steven Jackson (2), Justin Forsett (3), Chris Wells (3), Jamal Charles (5), Matt Forte (6), Reggie Bush (8) – I mentioned Wells’ having a big day, but I didn’t pick him. I’ve been writing Jim Mora all season sending him hate mail about continuing to ignore Justin Forsett, his hand was forced on Sunday with Jones out, and look what happened. Jamal Charles had a nice week after barely getting any looks a week ago. Matt Forte was terrible running but had 8 grabs for 120 yards despite Jay Cutler throwing 5 picks. Reggie made the most of his 6 carries and 2 catches, scoring twice and accruing 100+ yards.

WR – T.J. Houshmandzadeh (5), Jason Avant (6), Donnie Avery (7), Wes Welker, (8) Lee Evans (9), Maclin (10) – It’s no wonder that we all left Avant and Avery off the list, but both played big time on Sunday. Housh was open all day, again, but only this time Matt Hasselbeck actually threw him the ball. Wes Welker had 9 grabs for 90+ yards, Lee Evans managed to find two touchdown passes from Trent Edwards, that’s magic in and of itself. Maclin kept his strong rookie season going with 6 grabs, 76 yards, and a touchdown.

TE – Brent Celek (2), Will Heller (5), Dustin Keller (6), John Carlson (7) – It was probably a mass oversight that we left Carlson out, maybe we all thought he’d be blocking all day, at least I did. Celek continues to have awesome days, he was a great value TE pick this year. Heller, come on, how do we predict that? Dustin Keller has been solid, and was a big part of the Jets passing attack on Sunday.

Def/ST – Packers (2), 49ers (3), Bengals (5) – Apparently last time the Bengals all but shut down the Steelers, none of us believed. I have a feeling you’ll see “Bengals” in most Top 5s from here on out. The Packers absolutely dominated the Cowboys, and that was great, Dallas didn’t even score until the 4th quarter near end-game. The 49ers caught balls from Jay Cutler all night, 5 to be precise, that’s how they finished 3 for the week.
