Fantasy Focus Review: Week 7 Football Analysis

It was a tie for first for the first time this season, but it still stayed in Family. Papa and I both went big and finished a top the rankings, tied, with Josh finishing third and Red Red Ryan was Red Red Last. Some decent performances all week, some big sleeper guys going huge – here’s how the week of 7 went down.

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. Peyton Manning –Peyton had a nice week, finishing 5 overall, but the Rams weren’t close enough to go huge. B+
2. Drew Brees – Drew was okay, not great, Top 10 but he needed rushing scores to get on this board. B
3. DeAngelo Williams – Despite being forgotten in the second half, D-Lo was 4th in Week 7. A
4. Ben Roethlisberger – 12th overall, not really startable – how the Steelers won is beyond me. C-
5. Roddy White – Roddy was 11th amongst WRs, that’s not too shabby, but it wasn’t as wonderful as I wanted. B+

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. Eli Manning – Some big dropped passes hurt Eli, but a really lucky tip catch TD helped him. Ellie was bad. D-
2. Steve Smith – 18th overall, on way to a good finish to the season if they can figure it out. B+
3. Marshawn Lynch – He was 15th overall, but didn’t have as good a game as I expected. B-
4. Joseph Addai– 13th overall, not a good point per touch day, but a decent performance fantasy wise. B
5. Ryan Grant – 7th amongst RBs, Grant had a great day running the ball. 147 yards and a score. A+

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Laurence Maroney – 21st overall, the Patriots were back to throwing the ball. But not a bad day for LM. B-
2. Cadillac Williams – 28 receiving yards, 29 rushing yards – yeah, missed on this one… F
3. Chris Henry – Henry only had 2 catches, but they went for 26 yards and a TD, not bad for a waiver guy. B-
4. Jeremy Maclin – 38th overall, Maclin has been solid, he was targeted often, was close to a big day. C+
5. Sydney Rice – #6 overall, you betcha! A

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Matt Forte – 8 fantasy points, and only because he caught 4 short passes, another brutal day for Forte. A
2. Antonio Bryant – 24th overall, 13 fantasy points, definitely a decent option. Not great though. C-
3. Donnie Avery –Just 7 fantasy points, that’s about what I expected. A
4. Mark Sanchez – 11th overall, good day for Mark, despite the whole hot dog eating thing – nice sleeper. D-
5. Chad Henne – Henne had a bad day, and for that he can thank the 5 drops by Dolphins, and the early lead. A

A short “Who did we miss” section this week, because I’m a busy man. How about the Top 2 Running backs in the league this week, a shout out to Ricky Williams and his highest number of touchdowns in any one game in his career, 3 in a loss to the Saints. And Shonn Greene, he went in for Leon Washington when the little back broke his leg, and Shonn went crazy for 144 yards and 2 TDs on fewer than 20 carries. In the QB rankings, everyone missed Carson Palmer (#1 by a long shot) and Tony Tomo (the 2nd highest ranked QB by 4 fantasy points). Alex Smith, yes, the former #1 pick, also came in in sub-duty and finished 7th amongst QBs this week. Austin Miles reminded everyone that maybe last week wasn’t a fluke, as he took the top spot for the 2nd straight week, putting up 35 fantasy points. Chad Johnson finished 2nd. DeSean Jackson was 4th overall, and Sindey Rice and Devin Hester finished a close 6th and 7th – how about Sydney Rice’s move up the charts?

Fantasy Focus Review: Week 6 Fantasy Football Analysis

So, I got it right this week with my elite starts, that’s for sure. The only guy I missed on was Brandon Marshall, but the other guys ripped it up – if only I would have put Ray Rice and Drew Brees in there, I might be calling me Genius Lester. I also got back into the winning swing of things by pulling off this week’s writer’s title for best fantasy rankings of the week. Ryan came in 2nd, but lets still call him last. Papa finished 3rd after two straight weeks atop the charts, and Arsenault finished last. One of these days, this title will leave the family, until then… Here’s the review of this week’s Fantasy Focus Fantasy Analysis.

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. DeAngelo Williams – 3rd ranked RB, 31 fantasy points – you bet! A+
2. Randy Moss – #1 ranked WR, #3 overall with 38 fantasy points. Uh huh! A+
3. Maurice Jones-Drew – 2nd ranked RB, 38 fantasy points – even better! A+
4. Tom Brady – #1 QB and #1 overall with his 5 TD 2nd quarter against the Titans, 51 for Terrific Tom. A+
5. Brandon Marshall – Marshall had just 9 fantasy points, 43rd amongst WRs, those two Royal returns hurt his chances. D

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. Matt Hasselbeck – Gross, that’s the only way to explain the Hawks this week. Oh, and this… F
2. T.J. Housmandzadeh – T.J. was almost as bad as Matt – not quite, 7 fantasy points, but almost. D-
3. Cedric Benson – #19 RB of the week, not a bad day, 12 fantsy point not great either, especially against Houston’s run D. C+
4. Brett Favre – #4 QB in Week 6, another great pick for this week. Brett put up 29 fantasy points. A+
5. Wes Welker –I must say, Wes almost made my Top guys for Week 6, but I couldn’t put two WRs from the same team there. On cue, Wes was #2 behind Randy’s #1… A+

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Nate Burleson – Like most of the Hawks, nothing this week. F
2. Donnie Avery – Avery looked good early, grabbing a 17 yard pass for a TD, but that would be it as he got hurt. C
3. Rashard Mendenhall – 15th RB in Week 6, and now he has the starting job on lock down. If they’d only commit to run. B
4. Kyle Orton – # 8 QB for Week 6, 22 big ones, you bet! A
5. Eddie Royal – His kick off and punt return TDs got him 12 fantasy points in most leagues, but if you had him in a league that gets 0 points for his huge day. I don’t know, I’ll take a C.

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Fred Jackson –31st overall, 8 fantasy points- a no start for sure. B+
2. Vincent Jackson – 27th WR in Week 6, not a bad day, caught a nice TD pass – he’s a good one. Decent day. C-
3. Julius Jones – JJ sucked it up big time.  A+
4. Santonio Holmes – 21st WR, a nice day for Holmes, still don’t know why they passed so much, maybe to keep it close? D
5. Steve Slaton – Slaton killed it, ran okay, caught lots of passes for over 100 yards. Missed big here. F

PS – Seahawks killed a lot of fantasy owners on way to killing themselves. Eagles too…

Who did we miss this week? Well we were pretty accurate, but from top to bottom, here are a few we left out. The quarterbacks we missed? Try Drew Brees and Matt Schaub, numbers 2 and 3 amongst QBs respectively. I know Drew is having a hell of a year, but next time you have a minute, take a look at Matt’s production over the first few games – dirty. For running backs, Ray Rice, Thomas Jones, and Steve Slaton all finished in the Top 5. Ray was #1 overall with a huge week, single handily pulling the Ravens on top of the Vikings before Brett won it again… For receivers, Hines Ward and Sydney Rice finished 5th and 6th, nobody gives Hines any credit. In the TE rankings, we missed out on #’s 2 and 3, Zach Miller and Tony Scheffler both had huge games in big wins for their teams. And defensively we left out 3, 4, and 5 – Buffalo, Arizona, and Kansas City. Pretty good week for the good guys, stay tuned for Week 7’s fantasy predictions!

Fantasy Focus Review: Week 5 NFL 2009

Week 5 saw some huge games from some relatively unknown stars, a couple big games from guys that everyone expected to be great all season long, but they hadn’t gone big prior to Week 5, and a quarterback that completed 2 of 17 passes to lead his team to victory, or I guess they won in spite of him. Here’s the review!

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. Peyton Manning – #4 quarterback in Week 5, it was free money, 300+ 3 TDs, Reggie Wayne’s drop could have gotten him to #1, but 28 fantasy points from your QB is nice. A
2. Adrian Peterson –  #7 for AP, the Vikings didn’t feel like wasting their best player, he didn’t carry the ball all that much. B
3. Maurice Jones-Drew – The Jaguars were sleeping in this one, MJD had little room. F
4. Matt Schaub – 371 yards, 2 TDs, tied Matty for 6th amongst QBs this week. A
5. Reggie Wayne – 14th overall for Reggie, not a bad game, but not quite Miles, Roddy, or Maclin either. B-

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. Julius Jones– 45th overall? Yikes, the Seahawks threw early and often, and didn’t do much on the ground. F
2. Santana Moss – 40th WR, not a great game, not a bad output, I expected a little more. C
3. Tim Hightower– 14th RB, Tim caught passes, has few rushes, and scored a TD, sounds about right. B+
4. Carson Palmer – 271 yards and a TD, the Bengals relied on Benson more than I expected, Palmer was OK. B-
5. Hines Ward –11th receiver, you bet. Hines is one of the most consistent receivers ever. A

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Tashard Choice – 14th RB overall with just 8 rushes, this kid is a stud. A
2. Jerome Harrison – They said he’d run a lot, he didn’t Jamal Lewis carried the rock 31 times, JH not much. F
3. Mohamed Massaquoi –He had the most targets, most yards, and most catches for the Browns.  2 fantasy points. That’s how bad it is in Cleveland right now. F
4. Steve Breaston– 34th receiver, 10 fantasy points, a TD would have made this a great pick. C+
5. Eddie Royal – 12th overall, 15 targets, 10 catches, 90 yards, Eddie is back baby!!! A

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Ray Rice – Rice was huge this week! This was a tough week for me in Sit’em section. F
2. Steven Jackson – 23rd RB overall, just 10 fantasy points, outscored by lots of guys ranked below him. B
3. Matt Ryan – Ryan ate up the 49ers, tossing TDs to Roddy White like it was his job. It is his job. F
4. Roddy White –Best day he’s ever had, used Nate Clements and company like his own highlight film. F
5. Larry Johnson – 45th RB this week, he averaged something like 1.7 yards per carry. A

Red Red Ryan brought up the rear this week, probably because he can’t get out from under the boss’s finger and write his damn article any single day during the week. Josh finished 3rd, I finished second by a single spot as Papa Weimer took the title for the 2nd week in a row. What can I say? At least it’s staying in the family. Papa pulled off 3 wins this week, taking QBs, WRs, and TEs, and a second place finish in WRs despite Sims-Walker being a late scratch, quite the impressive week from the old man. He killed the QB rankings! Who did we miss this week? From bottom to top, we all missed the Seahawks, finishing Week 5 as the top ranked D. Cleveland was 4th with a huge day leading their offense to victory. Nobody saw room for Kellen Winslow in their Top 5 rankings, but he decided to go ballistic on us, putting up nearly twice as many points as the 2nd rated TE. Heath Miller, Visanthe Shiancoe, and Anthony Fasano finished 4, 5, 6… Five out of the top six receivers didn’t see a Top 5 selection. Andre Johnson was 4th, but 1, 2, and 3 went to Austin Miles, Roddy White, and Jeremy Maclin. 5 and 6 went to Austin Collie and Nate Burelson. Nobody picked a RB in the Top 6, 1-6 went as follows; Ahmad Bradshaw, Micheal Turner, Ray Rice, Joseph Addai, Ronnie Brown, and Cedric Benson. Maybe we’re picking the wrong Giant??? We all had a pretty solid day in the quarterback race, but none of us selected #1 signal caller Matt Hasselbeck nor did any of us pick #3 QB Matt Ryan. Other than that we had the Too 10 pretty well represented.

Fantasy Focus Review: Week 4 2009

Finally someone took my crown. I finished tied for second (or third, however you might want to look at it), losing to my bloody uncle, Papa Weimer, in this week’s fantasy predictions. Ryan and I tied, finishing a ranking point behind Papa. It was a tough week for me, all around, no doubt. Whether it was the flu, my other job, or the fantasy realm, it was a weak of taking shots right on the chin. But I’ll wear it, get up, and be better because of it. This is the week that was, Week 4 in the NFL.

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. Phillip Rivers – It didn’t start well for Phil, but he ended as the #3 overall QB – A
2. Adrian Peterson –  The Packers shut down AP, that’s about all there is to be said. But he still scored. D
3. Brandon Jacobs – The Giants run game isn’t dominating this season, just 92 yards, no score from BJ. D
4. Tom Brady – #9 QB for the week, not good enough for an A, but his 21 points were solid. B
5. Reggie Wayne – #11 overall WR, not too shabby, the Seahawks didn’t keep it close enough. B

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. Julius Jones– JJ let me down in a huge way. F
2. Devin Hester – Hester got hurt in this one, didn’t need to throw too much either. F
3. Darren McFadden– Gross. McFadden got hurt, but he had plenty of time to do something. F
4. Carson Palmer – Pretty solid, 21 points, tied for #9 overall. B+
5. Hines Ward –#6 overall in Week 4, his best week of the season. A+

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Tashard Choice – In a PPR, choice was 19th overall, not bad for a waiver pick up. B
2. Mike Sims-Walker – #2 overall, turning into a great option at WR week in and week out. A+
3. Mario Manningham –Just one 43 yard catch, not good enough to be happy about my pick. D
4. Rashard Mendenhall– #1 overall running back with 165 yards and two scores. You bet. A+
5. Eddie Royal – Ugh, Eddie still can’t get Orton to throw him the ball. Dude is open, I promise. F

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Matt Cassel – A couple late touchdowns got him to 15th overall, better than I expected, better than he actually played in this game, but numbers are numbers. C-
2. Steven Jackson – 10 fantasy points, 23 carries for 79 yards, 3 catches for 6 yards. Right. A
3. Nate Burleson – Didn’t do anything. 4 grabs for 31 yards. A
4. Bernard Berrien or Percy Harvin – Give me and F and a B for this one. Berrien produced nicely, his best game of the season, so I sucked there, Percy had just 2 catches for 39 yards, got that one pretty well.
5. Reggie Bush –4 fantasy points for Reggie, but he actually ran well against the Jets. Still, 4 pts. A

Papa took the crown by winning the big boys, taking home the top spot in quarterbacks and running backs in Week 4. My Drew Brees pick, teaming up with my Matt Schaub pick, got me a fat 4th place, something I’m just not accustomed to. Papa started his work naming David Garrard a top 5 option, and looking back, that really worked out for him. Papa was the only guy to believe in Steve Smith (NY), and that worked out well for him as well, as Steve was number one overall. Ryan took Mike Sims-Walker, he was the only guy who picked the #2 overall receiver. Josh had his own top pick, as the only guy to select Calvin Johnson. But lets get to who we missed, because it’s always good to look back on what could have been. Mohamed Massaquoi, one of my favorite rookie receivers, just happened to break out this week, putting up 22 fantasy points. Derrick Mason, Bernard Berrian, Brandon Marshall, Hines Ward, and Nate Washington also got into the Top 10. Austin Collie finished just outside. In the RB realm, nobody picked #1 back Rashard Mendenhall, he finished 9 fantasy points higher than any other back as he produced just under 200 yards of total offense with two touchdowns. In fact, me taking Matt Forte (5th overall) and Papa taking Steve Slaton (7th overall), were the only two instances in which any of us got a hold of a Top 10 running back. It went like this, Mendenhall, Ronnie Brown, Joseph Addai, Pierre Thomas, Matt Forte, Kevin Smith, Steve Slaton, Ray Rice, Jerome Harrison, and Mewelde Moore. If you predicted Harrison and Moore would be Top 10 guys in Week 4, shoot me an email, I’ll see if I can’t get you a job. We all had plenty of Top 10 QBs, but like I said, only Papa grabbed number one guy, David Garrard. Brett Favre was #2 in his return performance against his old squad. Besides that, Kyle Orton was the only guy not one of us predicted to be a top guy, and he finished 10th. That’s impressive. I was the only guy to take Antonio Gates, and while he didn’t do much for most of the game, his last quarter and a half gave me the #1 spot easily. Guys we missed, Heath Miller, Jermichael Finley, they were 2nd and 3rd respectively. Marcedes Lewis was tied for 4th with Chris Cooley. Sean Ryan (of KC) was 7th. Steve Heiden and Will Heller grabbed 8 and 9. Defensively we did alright, three of us listed top ranked San Francisco and all four of us had at least 2 top 10 defenses in our picks. Papa took the Texans and looked good doing it, as they were 3rd. The Saints did work, finishing second, but nobody picked them to dominate the Jets. The Dolphins were 4th with a huge week. The Bucs had a nice performance against the Redskins, but still couldn’t get the win.

Fantasy Football Focus: Week 3 NFL Review

Week 3 fantasy wasn’t quite as bad for me as my picks went. I wasn’t completely on top of my game, but I did finish on top of the rest of the guys in the group. If you can’t beat everyone, you might as well make sure to beat your friends. We all had some good picks and some misses as well. Here’s how the week went.

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. Maurice Jones Drew – 123 yards, three touchdowns, top running back, you bet. A+
2. Andre Johnson – 4 catches for 85 yards, well, after his 4th catch he got hurt, played but didn’t record another catch. C
3. Drew Brees – I said he had to come back down to earth, but said it wouldn’t be this week. I was right but wrong. F
4. Matt Schaub – #4 quarterback, finding himself high on the charts for the second week in a row. A
5. Brandon Jacobs – #13 running back, 92 yards and a touchdown, I expected more from Brandon than 15 points. C

1. Ray Rice– #9 running back overall, not bad when your teammate was tied with you. B
2. Ryan Grant – 99 yards for Ryan on 26 carries, I expected more and at least 1 TD. The Pack hates giving him TDs. C-
3. Larry Johnson– And Larry Johnson might never be a high play for me ever again. 38 yards for Larry. F
4. Dwayne Bowe – Not really fair because he was a last second scratch after no info about that all week. F
5. Braylon Edwards – 3 catches for 35 yards, Braylon must hate his QB situation with a passion. I know I do. F

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Mario Manningham – 4 grabs for 55 yards, just a score away from a big week. I still like Mario. C-
2. David Garrard – A 16th rated QB this week, Garrard’s numbers were just fine. B-
3. Trent Edwards –Trent couldn’t do diddly against the Saints secondary, missing a lot of open plays. F
4.Fred Jackson– His team couldn’t do anything offensively, but Fred still carried the ball 18 times for 71 yards while grabbing 4 passes for 26 yards. Not a bad day for Fred, who has been good through three. B-
5. Jabar Gaffney – 4 grabs for 39 yards, ugh, lots of better sleepers I could have picked; Reed, Jacoby, and Wallace… D+

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Joseph Addai – 13 carries for 63 yards was better than I thought, plus he caught a short TD. Miss. F
2. Cedric Benson – 17 carries for 76 yards and  TD, better than I expected from Cedric. D-
3. Willie Parker – 20 fantasy points for Willie Parker, a very good week for the Steeler RB. F
4. Bernard Berrien – 4 catches for 56 yards, a little higher than I expected, but not starter worthy. B
5. Chris Johnson – 22 carries for 97 yards, not bad, but just 10 fantasy points, right what I expected. Ranked 31st RB. B+

Well, Josh came in last for this week’s rankings. Papa and Kauffman came in tied for second (as they like to say) or tied for 3rd (as I like to say). The winner, for the 3rd straight week is me. I’m telling you, I had a tough week in picks, and my fantasy predictions didn’t end up being too great as far as sleepers, elite guys, starters, and sits, but as always it’s nice to beat your friends at stuff. I’ll go for 4 straight weeks as the top fantasy genius in Week 4. As for this week, we got a few things right. Our number one ranked RB, between the four of us, was Maurice Jones Drew – he came through in fine fashion. Three of us had Peyton ranked in the Top 5, and he was the top QB this week. Reggie Wayne was our top rated receiver, and he was ranked 3rd overall this week. Kauffman swung and really missed on Santonio Holmes, as the man crush comes back to haunt him again. As the 93rd rated receiver this week, he pretty much had no chance at anything but 4th in receivers. Drew Brees let everyone down, as only Papa Weimer didn’t rank him 1st for Week 3. Sticking Jericho Cotchery in my top five made up for keeping Steve Smith there, and despite Steve’s low output I still snuck away with the top receiver spot this week. Who’d we miss? Lets go backwards, the Dallas Cowboys were the #1 ranked defense for the week, they didn’t make any top 5 list. New Orleans, San Diego, and Indy rounded out 4, 5 and 6 this week, not a one made our lists. Vernon Davis was the beast that everyone thought he’d be when he first came out of Maryland, taking the top TE spot for Week 3 while Brent Celek finished a close second in helping the Eagles win big. A cat named Daniel Fells caught a couple touchdowns for the Rams, making the most of his two grabs – he finished 4th. And Greg Olsen was 6th overall, finally showing what many expected. Either it was crazy that nobody listed Santana Moss in their top 5 lists, because he ended up with 7 more points than any other receiver in the league, or his huge performance was a stunner. I’ll go for stunner. DeSean Jackson wasn’t supposed to suit up, or so the Eagles made fantasy owners believe all week long, only to finish 2nd overall in fantasy points while also performing a front flip splits move celebration in the end zone… I think his groin is fine. Jerks. Kevin Walter had a big week and Derrick Mason had his first lofty performance of the season. Andre Caldwell burst onto the scene to finish in the Top 10, one wonders what to expect of him going forward? As for running backs? How about lots of misses, we only picked one out of the Top 5, as Pierre Thomas, Tashard Choice, Julius Jones, and Willie Parker rounded out the Top 5. Who knew? Fred Taylor and Ricky Williams also made Top 10 performances of the week, bringing us back to the year 2000. As for QBs, Kevin Kolb was huge again for the Eagles, and maybe they knew what they were doing drafting the gun slinger a couple years ago, huh? Also in the top 10 and off of our lists, how about Jason Campbell, Jay Cutler, Brett Favre, Big Ben, Mark Sanchez, and a little guy name Kyle freaking Boller. How about that one? NFL Fantasy Focus Review: Week 2

One more week down in the NFL, one more fantasy title in the bag for me. That’s right folks, I fought off Red Red Ryan, his awkward red hair, and that allergy riddled red skin, and took home the top spot amongst the staff for the second straight week. If I ice the game for three weeks in a row, you can bet I’ll be talking hat trick once again. This is the review of my fantasy picks for Week 2, hope you enjoy the Fantasy Focus!

Elite Starters: Guys picked early that I love this week…

1. Michael Turner – Turner carried 28 times for a buck-0-five and a touchdown. But was just ok. C
2. Tom Brady – Tom was brutal this week, making me look like a rookie at this game. F
3. Marques Colston – 8 catches, 98 yards, 2 TDs, huge day. Those Eagles can’t guard big WRs. A+
4. Steve Smith – I told you week 1 was a fluke, Steve caught 8 balls for 131 yards in Week 2. B+
5. Brian Westbrook – Westbrook wasn’t as big a part of the offense as I thought. D

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. Eddie Royal – Eddie is killing me. I’m not giving up on him yet. F-
2. Ronnie Brown – 4th amongst backs, Ronnie had a huge day on the ground against the Colts. A+
3. Joe Flacco– His second straight multiple TD game of the season, but only 190 yards. B-
4. Joseph Addai – Addai was hurt by the Colts quick strike offense, getting only 6 carries and 31 yards. F
5. Leon Washington – Leon didn’t do much in a low scoring game. F

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Michael Bush – The Raiders are dealing with 8 in the box, Bush had 9 carries for 35 yards. Ugh. D
2. David Garrard – 9th overall, that’s more like it, I think Garrard will have a quietly solid year. A-
3. LenDale White – Chris Johnson put on a show, and White got just 6 carries for 25 yards, tough deal. F
4. Mike Bell– Mike looked good again, and despite getting hurt, put up 85 yards and a TD on 18 touches. A
5. Nate Burleson – Four catches for 46 yards, no scores. The Hawks looked lost when Matt went down. D+

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Jay Cutler – Cutler played well, giving his team a chance even though they couldn’t run at all. F
2. Reggie Bush – 13 touches for 75 yards and a touchdown, better than I thought. D
3. Steven Jackson – 17 carries for 104, 4 grabs for 15 yards. Not bad, better than I expected, not great. C+
4. Julius Jones – He may have snuck in a short TD catch, but Julius had 11 yards on 8 carries. I was right. A
5. Patrick Crayton – 3 fantasy points in a PPR league. This one I got one right on the money. A

PS – If you started Wes Welker, it probably hurt you. I know I won a league because of it…

Looking back at the week's action... For the second straight week, I had higher rated
players in my Top 5 lists than anybody else on the site. Josh took QBs, Ryan took the TEs
pretty easily, and I had running backs, receivers, and defenses taken care of. Ryan had lots
of second place finishes, but his terrible WR picks kept him in 2nd place, keeping me on
top. It feels good to win, always. Papa Weimer pretty much pooped the bed, but he's old and
basically needs help getting up at night to use the toilet, so that kind of thing is
expected now and again. Josh was the only writer that had the balls to take Matt Schaub,
plus he left Tom Brady off his Top 5, those two things gave him an easy win. We missed a lot
of good quarterbacks in Week 2, Carson Palmer, Philip Rivers, Byron Leftwich, and Eli
Manning finished 3-6 respectively - not one writer picked any one of those guys. As for RB,
nobody picked Darren Sproles, Marion Barber, Fred Jackson, or Willis McGahee - those guys
finished 3, 5, and tied for 6 on the week. Felix Jones and Carnell Williams also did work
rounding out the top 10. In the receiver area, I had numbers 1, 3, and 7 in my top 5, seeing
big games from Andre Johnson, Marques Colston, and Steve Smith. Plus, I didn't put Greg
Jennings in my Top 5 like Red Red Ryan and Josh, his 0 point night put them in a tough spot.
We left out Mario Manningham, who made a big name for himself with a great Sunday Night
performance. A couple more Top 10 guys that didn't get picked, Steve Smith (NYG), Vincent
Jackson, Mike Sims-Walker, Donald Driver, Ted ginn Jr., and DeSean Jackson. Jason Avant
and Johnny Knox also had big games out of nowhere.  Ryan took the TE list with 1, 3, 8, 4,
and 13 all making his Top 5. Brent Celek, Marcedez Lewis, and Kellen Davis all made the top
10, and none of us picked them. The Broncos and Cardinals finished atop the defensive
rankings, and went unpicked in any of our Top 5s. That's how it was, one more week for
Lucky Lester!!!

Fantasy Focus REVIEW: Week 1

This is where I review everything I predicted from my fantasy focus article every week. It’s pretty easy to follow, always feel free to write in if you have any questions. As for my fantasy predictions in Week 1, some good, some bad, just like my fantasy teams. I’ve graded out each fantasy pick, and as you’ll see, I killed my sleeper picks for Week 1.

See how everyone did with Week 1’s overall positional rankings (PPR) listed next to each player’s name from Team Lucky Lester’s Week 1 projections below. Some hits and misses for all, no doubt, but naturally, I came out ahead of the group…

Elite Starters: Guys picked really early that I love this week…

1. DeAngelo Williams – He finished 10th prior to Monday Night’s action, 17 fantasy points, they got way down early…. B-
2. Tom Brady – Tom started slow but ended up with 376 yards and 2 TDs. The guy is a sniper. A
3. Larry Fitzgerald – 6 catches for 71 yards and a TD: Not terrible, but worst than I expected, that offense was bad on Sunday. B
4. Randy Moss – Randy may have not caught any TDs, but his 12 catches for 141 yards totaled 26 fantasy points. Not bad. A
5. Brian Westbrook – Westy had just 15 fantasy points in a decent amount of action. The Eagles D was scoring too much for Eagle offensive players to light up the fantasy boards. B-

Solid Starters: Guys picked in middle rounds that should outplay their ranking/draft position this week…

1. Eddie Royal – I thought he’d grab 10, he grabbed 2. F
2. Reggie Bush –Reggie had 7 fantasy points, not getting into the scoring fun against the Lions. F
3. Ray Rice – Ray didn’t get involved in the passing game too much, but still had 13 fantasy points after rushing for over 100. B
4. Joseph Addai – He wasn’t too efficient, but scored and had just under 80 total yards. 5 catches were nice to see. 16 pts. B+
5. Matt Hasselbeck – Matt was #4 overall going into Monday, tossing for 279 yards and 3 TDs (2 ints as well). 22 pts. A

Sleeper Starters: Guys ranked low, drafted low or not at all, but I still like them this week…

1. Donnie Avery – Donnie had 6 receptions for 46 yards, but lost a fumble too, finishing with 8 fantasy points. C-
2. Julius Jones – Jones was huge today (117 rushing yards and a score to go with 2 catches for 19 yards), most of it came on one huge run, but you can’t really take that away from him. A
3. Tim Hightower – I’m glad I got my hands on Hightower in some leagues, he caught 12 balls for 121 yards – 25 pts. A
4. Mark Sanchez – 272 yards, a TD and an INT – nice game for the rookie in a big win. Decent fantasy day. B
5. Nate Burleson – 2 fantasy points like ESPN projected? Ha. 7 grabs for 74 yards and a TD. Nate posted 20 pts for my team. A

Sit ‘Em Son: I don’t care where they were drafted, I don’t like these guys starting this week…

1. Carson Palmer – 247 yards, 0 TDs, 2 ints… You’re welcome for this sit. A
2. Clinton Portis – 16 rushes for 60 yards. 1 catch for 10 yards. Could have been worse, but are you angry I told you to sit him? B
3. Willie Parker – 13 rushes for 19 yards. 1 catch for 5 yards. You’re welcome for this one too. A
4. Devin Hester – 4 catches for 90 yards and a nice long touchdown. Yeah, I was dead wrong about Devin. F
5. Hines Ward – 8 grabs for 103 yards was a good day, and even with the fumble he still put up 16 pts. Solid day. Sorry. F+

PS – I hope you didn’t start Marshawn Lynch like 33% of ESPN Leagues….

Looking back at the week's action.. Drew Brees was the #1 overall QB if averaged
out amongst our picks. The #1 overall running back was Adrian Peterson. So, as a
group, we got two right on the button. The #1 overall receiver, Reggie Wayne, was a
Top 3 receiving options on 3 writer's lists, making him the highest pre-rated receiver
on our boards as well. So, while none of us picked everything right, our highest
averaged players at the 3 key positions all finished #1 for the week. Now that's good
work. TE was a little bit different as only one guy, Red-Red Ryan Kauffman even had
John Carlson, this week's #1 TE, on his board. As for defenses, we all missed out on
the Eagles, who just happened to put up one of the all time great defensive point
scoring shows of all time on the unsuspecting Panthers. At least we didn't expect it.
What about the worst picks on our lists? Papa Weimer's WR chart had some issues as #1
Steve Smith had a terrible day, almost as bad as his #5 Eddie Royal. Arse's picks of
Steven Jackson and Willie Parker hurt his RB respect, and Andre Johnson as his #1
busted him, and everyone besides Papa. Ronnie Brown sure looked average in my Top 5,
and Matt Schaub finished well out of the Top 15 as well. Papa, Arse and I took big
chances putting Orton, Pennington, and Schaub in our Top 5 lists, none of which pay
off, making us look bad with 9, 8, and 4 points a piece. Obviously I looked the worst
in that gong show. We all picked the Ravens to finish either 1 or 2, they finished 21.
Who did we miss? Tony Romo and Joe Flacco went 2 and 3 for QBs in Week 1. Both went
unpicked by our four fantasy writers. Hasselbeck and Trent Edwards finished 5th and
6th respectively. Nobody picked the top defense (Philadelphia) to finish in the Top 5.
Nobody picked the second ranked defense (Atlanta) either.

theRUNDOWN Review: Week 16

Well it didn’t go all bad for me this week – wait, yes it did- not only did I lose in 3 fantasy superbowls, but I also lost my lunch at the local Cost-Cutter, and then I throw out this gross number – 130 – but I guess it’s been worse- This was theRUNDOWN for Week 16.
QB: Jay Cutler vs. Buffalo: Jay was the 5th rated quarterback this week, behind Rivers, Manning, and Cassel and Tyler Thigpen – his 27 fantasy points helped me win, but it didn’t help his Broncos stay away from having a loser out game in San Diego next week – awesome. I really win twice there.

RB: Maurice Jones Drew vs. Indianapolis: Jones Drew did a great job of catching some balls, and that gave me some solid pointage. In fact, he was the #4 running back in the league last week. I’ll take those 23 points with a smile.

RB: Matt Forte vs. Green Bay: I needed 19 from Forte to win one of my fantasy super bowls – as it turned out he only finished with 17, so I lost. Tough one to take, I thought GB would allow big stuff to Forte – it hurts to be wrong.

FLEX: Thomas Jones vs. Seattle: Jones had 11 – I hate Eric Mangini.

WR: Andre Johnson vs. Oakland: AJ had 3 fantasy points – I didn’t get to see the game, but I was thinking he must be sitting this one out. Then I saw him catch a late pass, and wondered where he was all day. Apparently covered on lockdown.

WR: Randy Moss vs. Arizona: Randy had 16, converting one deep touchdown on a wide receiver screen. He may be getting older, but tell the Cardinals that he’s lost a step.

TE: Tony Gonzalez vs. Miami: TG had 19 – he’s my hero.

K: Josh Brown vs. San Francisco: Josh Brown had 11, one of my top scorers. I’m getting this kicker thing down pat.

D: Pittsburgh vs. Tennessee: I was wrong here, the Steelers defense was abused a little, and they gave up enough points to hurt me, they got 2 fantasy points.

PAPA’S Week 16 SLEEPERS

Tyler Thigpen: A couple picks, but great numbers otherwise and 3 total touchdowns. I win again. A+

Dan Orlovsky: I get a good one with Thigpen, then a crap pick here – Dan-O did notta. F

Shaun Hill: 18 fantasy points? You bet, not a Tyler Thigpen day, but still a start you should have made I’m guessing. B+

Pierre Thomas: He didn’t have to do that much work against the Lions. In the middle of the 2nd quarter, the Saints had 4 rushing TDs one of which went to Pierre. Still he pulled home 16 points, not too shabby for a half day’s work. B

Kevin Smith: All he did was rush for 111 yards and a touchdown – can’t argue with those numbers. A-

Leon Washington: Whoops! F.

Kevin Walter: 2 catches for 17 yards – sorry about this one guys, big swing and a miss. F

Devin Hester: 2 catches for 12 yards, good day to be a receiver on my fantasy squad apparently. F

Tory Holt: 4 grabs for 55 yards – that doesn’t really do it, but it basically tripples peformances from Walter and Hester… C-

Jeremy Shockey: He got hurt, but seeing as though I might deserve it, I’ll take the F.

Miami Dolphins: The Fins had 11, but they picked some balls off and were that close to having a big day. C-

Papa’S Week 15 Splinter-Butts (bench him, son)

Tony Romo: I was right on the button until his last minute toss to Jason Witten – oh well, he had a decent game but not great. I started Rivers over him in my league, and it helped me out.

LaDainian Tomlinson: 25th overall, if that was good enough for you to start him, than sorry for the advice. He got 13 fantasy points – like I said, there’s a lot of guys I’d start over LT this week. 24 would have worked out.

Maurice Morris: 29 carries for 119 yards against the Jets. I’ll be the first to say that’s about 60 yards more than I expected. He didn’t score and didn’t catch a ball, he had 11 – not a great sit by me, but not a bad one either.

Santonio Holmes: 5 catches, 93 yards, and one diving touchdown catch. Needless to say I blew this one.

theRUNDOWN Review: Week 15

It was an interesting week. Any time the Top 5 running backs have Pierre Thomas, Dominic Rhodes, Tashard Choice and Kevin Faulk listed as 1,2,4,5 – something weird is going on. Throw in Tarvaris Jackson as a top QB, things are just plain crazy. It was a good day for those that found a fill in running back late. Here’s how my team scored

QB: Kurt Warner vs. Minnesota: Kurt finished with 14 fantasy points, not what I was hoping for. The other guy I was considering, Drew Brees, only had 17, so I wasn’t going to be happy either way. Looks like I should have taken Tarvaris Jackson. Nice.
RB: DeAngelo Williams vs. Denver: 17 fantasy points for DeAngelo, this guy is legit. He’s become a sure thing every week.
RB: Matt Forte vs. New Orleans: Just 16 points for Forte, as he struggled after an early ankle roll.
FLEX: Brian Westbrook vs. Cleveland: I’m not too impressed with the Eagles offense, and in turn Brian’s production. He didn’t get into the end-zone, and his 9 points didn’t help me one bit.
WR: Larry Fitzgerald vs. Minnesota: Larry had 5 catches for 50+ and took home 10 points.
WR: Greg Jennings vs. Jacksonville: Greg only had a few catches for a few yards, but he did catch a TD – still 11 points, and 21 from two receivers is not a happy outing.
TE: Tony Gonzalez vs. San Diego: Tony had 18, finishing behind Dallas Clark’s huge week for the Colts. Still, nobody is as consistent and as good as Tony. He has 50 more fantasy points than any TE in the league.
K: Olindo Mare vs. St. Louis: Tough to throw my kicker of the week in Seattle’s offense, but why not? This guy is playing in St. Louis and the Hawks are bound to attempt 3 or 4 field goals.
D: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Cleveland: 3rd rated defense this weekend with 24 fantasy points. I felt good about this one for good reason.

PAPA’S Week 15 SLEEPERS

Tyler Thigpen: He was a top 10 guy once again, and his 30+ rushing yards and rushing TD got him to 20 points on the week. He helped me win yet another game and now I’m in the Super Fantasy Bowl.
Kyle Orton: I was excited about Kyle’s chances but he managed just 6 points. He was good enough down the stretch though, and two possible touchdown passes got pass interfered with and he didn’t get yards or the score. Those are the breaks.
Seneca Wallace: Seneca was bad in Week 15, especially in the first half. I’ll take F’s for him and Orton.
Pierre Thomas: Don’t mind this start, he was just the Top scoring running back in Week 15. Yhatzee. A+++
Kevin Smith: Smith was the 8th rated running back, finding plenty of holes against the Colts and being a huge part of the Lions offensive success. This kid will fly under the radar a little bit next season, don’t sleep on him. A
Jonathan Stewart: Well, at least he was better than the 4 stars that I listed. His 52 yards and a score got him 11. More than Parker, Lewis, or Barber.
Domenick Hixon: Hixon had 12 points, not great but not terrible either. C
Devin Hester: Hester’s awesome game didn’t translate to fantasy success, which is too bad. He finished out of the top 30, but is responsible for the Bears win, as his PI draws got the Bears into great position. If only Kyle could lead the wide open Hester. C
Bryant Johnson: BJ had 9 – not great, but just about what he’s been getting lately. In 4 of the last 5 he has at least 9 fantasy points. C
John Carlson: JC had 12 and was a Top 5 TE, I think he should be drafted as such heading into next season.
New England Patriots: The Pats finished just outside of the Top 10 at 11th overall this week. JaMarcus Russell played well for the Raiders, and if it weren’t for some early mistakes the game would have been much closer.

Papa’S Week 15 Splinter-Butts (bench him, son)

Marc Bulger: Well he was better than Seneca, but Tyler Thigpen and Chad Pennington were both better than him. Jeff Garcia didn’t play. Marc was better than I thought he’d be as he managed 16 fantasy points.
Tim Hightower: 5 rushes for 20 yards. 5 catches for 20 yards. Hardly an awesome outing, huh?
Jamal Lewis: Even worse than I though, Jamal had 14 carries for 32 yards, no scores either.
Randy Moss: Randy had just under 70 yards of receiving, but his 2 touchdowns made him a good start. Sorry about that one.

theRUNDOWN Review: Week 14

165 points from my starters this week – not too shabby – check out all my work from top to bottom! 

QB: Matt Cassel vs. Seattle: Matt was tied for 11th overall amongst quarterbacks – should have gone with the Peyton Manning match-up – dang. Still 19 points isn’t bad. 

RB: Adrian Peterson vs. Detroit: 102 yards and 1 catch for 15 yards – he was good for just 12 points against the Lions – come on. 

RB: Matt Forte vs. Jacksonville: 69 yards rushing against the Jags? Ouch. Still, Forte’s catching ability gave him 5 grabs for 37 yards and while he didn’t score a TD, he still managed 14 fantasy points. 

FLEX: LT vs. Oakland: He scored and rushed for 91 yards, but it took him 25 carries – against the Raiders of all teams. I’m interested to see where LT gets drafted in fantasy circles next season. 16 points for LT2. 

WR: Roddy White vs. New Orleans: 10 grabs for 164 yards, but no TDs for Roddy. Still, White did work. He was 4th amongst WRs, and I needed it – him and Marshall made this week respectable for me. 26.

WR: Brandon Marshall vs. Kansas City: Brandon had 11 grabs for just 91 yards, but he took two of those catches to the house. He was 2nd amongst WRs and 4th overall in fantasy land. 32 for the big receiver. 

TE: Tony Gonzalez vs. Denver: 5 catches for 73 yards and a touchdown – Tony is as good as it gets, even though he’s old. 2nd TE overall. 18 fantasy points. 

K: Ryan Longwell vs. Detroit: 2 Forty-yarders and 2 extra points – I wanted one more field goal attempt – but 10 points is decent here. He was the 5th rated kicker this week. 

D: Tennessee Titans vs. Cleveland: 17 points from the Titans – the Browns didn’t take many chances, but Tennessee shut them down all day long. 

PAPA’S Week 14 SLEEPERS

Tyler Thigpen: 16 fantasy points – not the biggest day ever, but he’s worth playing once again. B

Daunte Culpepper: He did toss for 220 yards, but got just one touchdown. Still, 14 points isn’t bad. B

JaMarcus Russell: Ugh. F

Pierre Thomas: 4th overall amongst running backs – and he’s still the best running back in New Orleans. A+ 

Cedric Benson: 57 yards and 1 catch against the Colts – not good enough. 6 points. D-

Domenick Hixon: Hix dropped a sure thing 60+ yard reception, and it looked like he would have scored – as is, he didn’t do much. I missed, but by just that much. 3 grabs for 30 yards. Maybe I was wrong about Plax’s absence? D-

Devin Hester: 5 catches for 80 yards – could you imagine this guy playing a slot roll for the Patriots… Dirty. Anyway, he’ll be a solid receiver in Chicago for years to come. B+

Zach Miller: 8 grabs for 64 yards made him the 4th TE overall – he’s a must start. Even on the Raiders. A

Arizona Cardinals: 3rd defense this week. How do you like me now? A+

Papa’S Week 14 Splinter-Butts (bench him, son)

Marc Bulger: 220 a TD and a pick – better than I thought, but still, there were 17 guys better than Marc – Shaun HIll, Tyler Thigpen, Kerry Collins, Culpepper, Orton, Seneca Wallace, and Jeff Garcia were 7 of them. 

DeAngelo Williams: Can I miss more? TB killed me in many ways this week, and it all started with giving up 300+ rushing yards to the Panthers.  

MeWelde Moore/Willie Parker: These guys didn’t do anything in a Pittsburgh win. Dallas’s D came to play. 

Kevin Walter: Yikes! Kevin Walter killed me this week. Well, he was on just about everyone’s bench, but still – he was no player to sit. Not when Matt Schaub torched the Packers secondary for a win in GB and 400+ yards. Walter was his #1 target.
